TOWSON, Md. – Sunday's final home game of the regular season against Drexel ended in a 63-60 final. The Towson University women's basketball team moves to 14-13 on the season and 9-7 in conference play.
Nukiya Mayo and
Kionna Jeter led the Tigers with 17 points each.
Shavonne Smith also dropped 11 and
Ryan Holder had a team-best 10 boards.
How it Happened
- Action started slow on both ends of the court as the Dragons held a 2-0 lead with seven minutes to go in the first.
- The road team then opened the floodgates, rolling out to a 13-2 lead with 4:32 to go in the period.
- Towson responded going on a 7-3 run, but Drexel continued to score in the final minute. At the end of one the Dragons led 25-15.
- Only 12 total baskets were made in the second quarter as the Tigers continued to dig into the lead, with 6:48 left in the half Towson trailed by six.
- Drexel continued to score in response to Towson's attempts to close, entering the half the Dragons were leading by seven, up 34-27.
- The Tigers finally took the lead back on a three from Kionna Jeter, taking a one-point advantage and 5:27 to go in the third.
- A three from Keishana Washington took a two-point lead and Towson wouldn't close the gap until 2:05 was left in the quarter and tied the game up 43-43.
- Entering the fourth Drexel led 47-45.
- Towson played catch-up the entire fourth as the Dragons went up by 10 with 5:17 to go.
- Jeter went to the line for three free throws, made them all, and cut the lead to four with 4:15 on the clock.
- The next three possessions both teams traded baskets until Jeter returned to the line, two minutes to go, and cut the lead to four once again.
- Q. Murray inched the Tigers closer, making two foul shots, putting the game within two and 1:25 remaining.
- Murray scored the final point from the home team, also on a free throw, with 39 to go and the Dragons scored twice more to seal the game.
Beyond the Box
- Nukiya Mayo's 17 points were her 25th game this season and 55th career appearance with 10 or more points.
- Kionna Jeter dropped 17 as well, her 26th night in double digits.
- Ryan Holder's team-best 10 rebounds are her first time this season with 10 or more boards.
- Shavonne Smith scored 11 points for her third appearance this year in double figures.
- Towson finishes the home record with a 10-5 mark.
