Q. Murray as she recorded her 148th assist of the season, setting the single season record.
Towson moves to 14-14 on the season and 9-8 in conference play before heading to Elon for Sunday's finale of the regular season.
How it Happened
- It was another slow start for the Tigers as William & Mary took a quick 7-0 lead.
- Towson capitalized on a turnover as Nukiya Mayo scored the first points for the road team, with 6:16 to go in the first the Tribe led 10-4.
- William & Mary was scoreless as the Tigers scored twice more, cutting into the lead 10-8. At the end of one, Towson trailed 14-12.
- The second period saw more of a battle early as Towson came within three points of tying it up with 6:29 on the clock and a 22-19 lead for the home team.
- The Tribe scored the next two buckets and it continued back and forth with Mayo cutting the lead to four and 1:22 to go. William & Mary scored the next two buckets putting the lead at 33-25 at the half.
- Entering the third the Tigers finally climbed the hump over the 30-point mark, before the Tribe went on a 7-0 run, forcing a Towson timeout. With 5:22 to go in the third, the home team led 45-31.
- Towson chipped away, trying to close the gap, coming as close as nine points with three minutes to go. At the end of three, William & Mary was ahead 53-43.
- Starting the fourth the Tribe rolled out to a 14-point advantage with 8:24 to go, forcing a Tiger timeout.
- A 7-0 run spurred by a three from Myka Johnson-Matthews cut the lead to six with 4:17 to go.
- Teams traded baskets in the following minute before Towson scored six straight points, coming within two points of tying it up.
- With 51 seconds remaining, Q. Murray drove the lane scoring a layup to come within two, forcing a William & Mary timeout.
- On the next Tribe possession, with 24 seconds to go, Eva Hodgson turned the ball over and gave Towson the opportunity to close. Kionna Jeter lobbed a pass that went too outside arm's reach for Mayo down in the paint, going out of bounds.
- The home team then went to the line to make two free throws with just two seconds to go, sealing the game.
Beyond the Box
- Thursday marked career history for Nukiya Mayo, as she recorded her 1,363 career points. She is now fifth all-time in career scoring.
- Mayo also recorded her 25th game this season in double figures.
- Kionna Jeter scored 13 for her 27th game in double digits. Jeter also grabbed seven steals for her 13th game with at least four steals this year.
- Q. Murray's seven assists were her 16th night with at least five this season.
- Shavonne Smith had her first career start tonight against the Tribe.
