TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team led early in the Saturday matinee against Lafayette but fell to the Leopards 6-2 at Schuerholz Park, evening the weekend series.
Towson (4-8) scored twice in the second inning and led 2-1 through the first five frames. Lafayette (4-8) went ahead with two runs in the sixth and added a trio in the seventh to win.
Key Stats:
- Matt Arceo earned three of Towson's five hits, reaching base four times off a 3-for-3 day and a walk. Brandon Austin got on base three occasions, going 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
- On the mound, Nick Ramanjulu (1-3) got the defeat despite throwing the first four scoreless innings, concluding with three runs, only one earned, in six innings, striking out seven. Matt Watters finished the game, having three runs and one strikeout in three frames.
- For Lafayette, Dylan Minghini hit his second home run in as many games for three RBI in the sixth. The win was picked up by starter Mark Anderson (1-0), pitching five full with two runs. Jacob Ciccone notched the save, going four hitless, scoreless innings with nine strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- Each side threatened in the first inning, including Towson getting the bases loaded with two outs, but each starter got out with no runs across.
- In the bottom of the second, back-to-back singles and a stolen base put second and third with no outs for the Tigers. Dirk Masters hit a ground out to bring in a run, then a Colin Conroy sacrifice fly to right to give Towson a 2-0 lead.
- Nick Ramanjulu went scoreless through the fourth inning. Lafayette broke through in the fifth on an RBI single by Jack Amendola. Towson held the lead 2-1.
- Lafayette got the lead in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Patrick Vandenbergh hit the left-center gap for a two-run single. Next inning, Lafayette added to its lead with a three-run home from Dylan Minghini to go up 6-2.
- Towson's infield made a pair of strong defensive plays in the top of the ninth as Conroy made a diving catch and Masters made a ground out with a running throw off the backhand. But, Towson could not chip away and fell 6-2.
Inside the Numbers:
- Matt Arceo has earned multi-hit performances in his last three games, combining to go 7-for-11 (.636).
- This is Towson's first home loss after winning its first two at Schuerholz Park this season.

Tomorrow, Towson and Lafayette will play a doubleheader, with the first game starting at 11 a.m. Each game will be a nine-inning contest.
