Coleman, Wonders Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University student-athletes Lauren Coleman and Marrisa Wonders have been honored as nominees for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year.  Coleman and Wonders were nominated by the Towson Athletics department for this award.

The final 30 are selected among the top 10 in each of the NCAA's three divisions.  From there, the selection committee will determine three finalists in each division for a total of nine finalists.

Coleman and Wonders are two of the 605 nominees across all NCAA divisions for this honor.  More than 220,000 women competed in NCAA athletics during the 2019-20 season.  The NCAA Woman of the Year program celebrates the accomplishments of female collegiate student-athletes across all divisions.

Coleman earned USTFCCCA All-America recognition in the shot put and was the second-ever Towson student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships.  She finished 17th in the nation in the shot put with a throw of 16.75 meters, achieving that mark in the Don Kirby Invitational on Feb. 13, 2020 and is a two-time CAA and ECAC champion in the shot put in 2017 and 2018.  Coleman, part of a program that won the 2020 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the 2017 CAA title, earned First Team All-CAA selections in 2017 and 2018, plus in 2018, was chosen as the CAA Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet and ECAC Female Athlete of the Meet.  Coleman has worked with seven different organizations for community service, is one of the top student interns for Towson marketing and fan experience and is a seven-time member of the Towson Dean's List.  Coleman earned her degree with a 3.558 GPA in business administration and stands with a 3.624 GPA in graduate school, majoring in marketing intelligence.

Wonders is the first-ever AVCA All-American for Towson volleyball, also earning an All-America selection from VolleyballMag.com.  The 2019 AVCA Player and Setter of the Year led Towson to an undefeated conference regular season, a CAA Tournament title and a victory over American in the NCAA Tournament.  She currently ranks fourth in Towson history with 3,522 career assists, ranking 10th in Division I with 11.51 assists per set in 2019 and 25th with 1,289 total assists.  She was the 2019 CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player and a member of the 2016 CAA All-Rookie Team.  Wonders has volunteered her time for several organizations, including Autism Speaks, Hempfield Area Recreation Center and Life Center International among others, and is a six-time member of the Towson's Dean's List.  Wonders graduated from Towson in Spring 2020 with a 3.66 GPA in design studies.
