Former Men’s Lacrosse Captain Goodrich Wins MLL Title

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- In an shortened season featuring high temperatures and a tight schedule, former Towson University men's lacrosse All-American Zach Goodrich helped lead the Boston Cannons to the Major League Lacrosse Championship.

The 2019 Towson graduate helped lift the Cannons to a 13-10 win over top-seeded Denver Outlaws, coached by former Tiger leader Tony Seaman. Goodrich won the MLL title just miles from his hometown of Stevensville, Maryland.

Goodrich, a second-year assistant captain for the Boston Cannons, helped guide the franchise to its second-ever MLL title, the Steinfeld Trophy, the Cannons' first since 2011 against the Hamilton Nationals, also at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Regarded as the best defensive midfielder in the MLL, Goodrich finished the regular season with two caused turnovers and nine ground balls. In the title match, Goodrich forced three turnovers along with one ground ball. He served one penalty in the championship game, a one-minute slashing infraction.

The Boston Cannons went 3-2 during the round robin regular season, opening with two straight wins over the New York Lizards (16-14) and Philadelphia Barrage (12-10). After setbacks against the defending champion Chesapeake Bayhawks (15-13) and the upstart Connecticut Hammerheads (11-8), Boston responded with back-to-back wins over the Outlaws, 10-8 to cap the regular season before the championship game.
