Towson Alumni Benimon, McGlynn Face Off in The Basketball Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two former Towson University players, Jerrelle Benimon and Four McGlynn, saw themselves on opposite sidelines in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) on Sunday as Sideline Cancer defeated Team Hines 93-91 in the round of 24.

Benimon competed with for 11-seed Team Hines while McGlynn played for 22-seed Sideline Cancer in the winner-take-all tournament.  The two teams played in the Columbus Regional on Sunday on ESPN.  Sideline Cancer is playing in honor of the Greg and Cathy Griffith Family Foundation in the fight against pancreatic cancer.

Each played as reserves in the game, which was completed by a final shot by Marcus Keene for an Elam Ending.  An Elam Ending is when a team reaches the point total determined in the final minutes for a victory.  The TBT Twitter feed called this contest one of the best games in the tournament's seven-year history.

After transferring in from Georgetown, Benimon earned 1,103 points in two years at Towson, earning over 530 points in each year with the Tigers, earning Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year each season plus was a Lou Henson finalist for the nation's top mid-major player in the 2012-13 season, also being a Lou Henson All-American. Benimon played in the 2014-15 National Basketball Association (NBA) season with the Utah Jazz and has also played professionally in China, Germany, New Zealand and Israel.

McGlynn graduated from Towson after transferring in from Vermont, being one of the top three-point threats for the Tigers with 126 three-point field goals in two seasons.  He earned 2015 CAA All-Academic Team and was third in the league in three-point shooting during the 2013-14 season, tallying 716 points in his two years with the Tigers.  After playing his senior year at Rhode Island, McGlynn has played professionally in Portugal and Spain.

Sideline Cancer now moves on to the next round of the TBT.  The team will play 6-seed Team Challenge ALS on Tuesday, July 7th at 2 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.  The winner of the TBT gets one million dollars for the team.
