TOWSON, Md. – Former Towson University men's basketball player Brian Starr will continue his professional career, signing with Budo Gemlik Basketbol in Turkey for the upcoming season.
This will be Starr's third straight year in the professional ranks, playing the last two years with COR-Borisfen in Belarus. In this past season, Starr averaged 16.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists and four steals per contest. He competed in the FIBA Europe Cup, was named Eurobasket.com All-Eurasian League Second Team and was a league player of the week honoree five times.
Transferring to Towson after two years at Colby Community College in Kansas, Starr, a 6-foot-3 guard out of Kansas City, was a two-year guard for the Tigers, playing in 63 games. He finished with 444 points, 138 assists and 63 steals, also adding 52 three-point field goals.
Budo Gemlik Basketbol, formed in 2016, plays in the Turkey Basketball League in Gemlik, a town in northwest Turkey. Starr will be one of two Americans on the roster, along with Myles Carter.
Several former Tigers are/have been playing professionally lately. Jerrelle Benimon played the 2018-19 season in Israel for his fifth consecutive professional season while Gary Neal played in Turkey during the 2018-19 year after a nine-year NBA career. Several of Pat Skerry's players at Towson have played professionally: Starr, Benimon, Arnard William Adala Moto, Mike Burwell, Marcus Damas, John Davis, Bilal Dixon, Alex Gavrilovic, Four McGlynn, Mike Morsell and Timajh Parker-Rivera.
