TOWSON, Md. – Two Towson University pitchers, Cam Clark and Chase Smith, have been selected as Maryland Collegiate Baseball League (MCBL) All-Stars, announced by the league this week.
This is the second straight year where Clark is an MCBL All-Star while Smith picks up this honor for the first time.
The MCBL is a summer wooden bat league where collegiate athletes compete in professional-like conditions. Several Towson players competed in the league to keep playing baseball while staying local. The league followed COVID-19 protocols to create the safest possible environment for the players.
Clark pitched for the Maryland Monarchs, serving primarily as a starter. In 16 innings pitched in six games, Clark earned a 1.12 ERA and a 1-0 record, striking out 20 batters. He earned multiple strikeouts in every outing and helped the Monarchs finish in third place in the league.
Clark competed for the Baltimore Clippers, having two starts and two relief appearances. In 10.2 innings pitched, Smith had a stellar 0.84 ERA, going 1-0 with 21 strikeouts, averaging almost two Ks per frame. In a victorious start, he struck out nine batters in five innings.
In the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, Clark and Smith each served as relievers for the team, both having a 0.00 ERA. Clark struck out 12 batters in 9.2 frames in eight games while Smith had one appearance, going two-things of an inning in relief.
