REGINA, Saskatchewan – Former Towson University quarterback Tom Flacco has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL), the team announced on Friday.
 
Flacco had been on the Roughriders' negotiation list as a non-Canadian player and has been signed by Saskatchewan for the upcoming 2021 season.
 
In two years with Towson, Flacco was a two-time finalist for the Walter Payton Award for top offensive player in FCS, finishing his Tiger career with 6,082 passing yards and 50 passing touchdowns, averaging 297.8 yards of total offense per game and standing in the top-6 in Towson history in passing yards, touchdowns and completions.  He also was a CoSIDA Academic All-American® in each football and baseball in 2019.  He also earned 2019 CAA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and All-CAA recognition each year at Towson.
 
Flacco is the most recent Towson addition to the CFL.  Former teammate Shane Leatherbury has signed with the BC Lions while Malik Tyne was drafted into the CFL by the Edmonton Football Team in April.  Frank Beltre has played in the CFL the past five seasons, including being a member of a Grey Cup champion with the Calgary Stampeders, while Darius Victor signed a contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2019.  Other Towson alumni in the CFL include Andrew Hollingsworth (2002), Telvion Clark (2015), Dan Crowley (1995-96, 1999-2003), Mark Orlando (1995) and Gerrard Sheppard (2016-17).
 
Saskatchewan, a four-time Grey Cup champion with the last coming in 2013, won the CFL West Division in 2019 with a 13-5 record.  The first game of the 2021 season is scheduled for June 12^th against Edmonton.
