TOWSON, Md. – With the National Football League (NFL) playoffs set to begin this coming weekend, two Towson University alumni are part of postseason teams in hopes to make a run for the Super Bowl title.
Jordan Dangerfield and
Tye Smith are off to the playoffs with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans respectively. Both are part of division champions with the Steelers taking the AFC North and the Titans winning the AFC South.
Dangerfield was named a team captain for the Steelers in the preseason and is the squad's leader on special teams. He played in 14 games this year, picking up 10 tackles, and was a candidate for the Pro Bowl.
Smith returned to the Titans secondary in week two of the season, being part of Tennessee since 2017. Smith has played in 11 games, including having a start in a contest, with 13 tackles and a pass deflection.
Towson players have been part of past Super Bowl champion teams. Sean Landeta earned two Super Bowl rings as the punter for the New York Giants in 1987 and 1991 while Dave Meggett also was on the 1991 Giants at running back. Jermon Bushrod was the starting left tackle for the New Orleans Saints in their Super Bowl victory in 2010; alum Joe Vitt was an assistant head coach for that Saints team as well.
The Titans, as the 4-seed, will host the 5-seed Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the playoffs. The 3-seed Steelers draw the 6-seed Cleveland Browns in Pittsburgh.
