Dixon Earns CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week

TOWSON, Md. – Helping lead a spectacular defensive performance for Towson University over the weekend, Christian Dixon was chosen as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Football Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday.

Dixon earns his first-ever CAA weekly award and the first weekly league honor for Towson football this year.

The redshirt senior linebacker helped Towson to one of its top defensive performances in recent years, holding then No. 12/14 Rhode Island to seven points in a 21-point victory over the Rams.  It was the first time Towson has held a league opponent to single digit points since Nov. 5, 2016 in a 23-6 home victory over Elon.

Dixon earned several personal career highs in Saturday's win, including 11 tackles, two sacks and four tackles for loss.  In addition, he had a key forced fumble in the first quarter which led to Towson's second touchdown drive.

This season, Dixon is tied for the team lead in tackles with 43 and is alone with the most sacks with four and forced fumbles with three.  He has earned at least six tackles in each of the past five games.

The Tigers next take on William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
