Benzing Named CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. -- Behind a record-setting performance and a team victory, Towson University sophomore Brian Benzing was selected as the CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week. The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) made its announcement Tuesday afternoon.

Benzing is the second men's swimmer from Towson to win a weekly honor, joining teammate Ryan Baldino, who was selected as the CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week last week.

Benzing turned in another record-setting performance on Saturday, setting a pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke at William & Mary's Recreation Center. The second year swimmer clocked in at 55.29 seconds while remaining unbeaten in his college career in the event, winning by nearly three seconds.

The Catonsville, Marylander doubled on the day with a 100-yard butterfly win with a 49.29 and was a key cog in both relay wins, swimming his portion of the 200-yard medley relay in 24.55 and leading off the 400-yard freestyle relay with a 45.93. Towson won the events in 1:31.53 and 3:03.02, respectively.
