TOWSON, Md. – Towson University's 2021 Athletics Hall of Fame class includes former All-Americans in football, track, lacrosse, and golf as well as key administrators that have done outstanding work in the Tigers' athletic department. They were honored at the Towson Athletics 57th Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 15th, the eve of the University's Homecoming Weekend.
The seven inductees include Jermon Bushrod (football), Jeff Castle (golf), Dan Cocchi (lacrosse), Dan O'Connell (athletic media relations), Nance Reed (administration), Steve Schaefer (football), and Tina Shriver (track & field). Towson's 1987-88 men's tennis team was honored as the Team of Distinction.
"I am truly excited that we are able to come together tonight to celebrate the accomplishments of our seven inductees," said Towson Athletics Hall of Fame President Richard Bader. "Creating a virtual event would not have given this group of athletes the recognition they deserve."
The 2021 Hall of Fame Class was inducted in front of a crowd of 275 people, 35 of which were current Hall of Fame members. Bill Binder, Bill Maczis and Dave Yingliing rounded out the group, representing the late 1950's--all three men were teammates at Towson in 1956-57.
Towson Athletics looks forward to next year's celebration in 2022 and is accepting nominations for the 58th Hall of Fame class now. The selection committee will meet in February to elect a maximum of four inductees. Additionally, a past team whose performance resulted in a championship title, earned it postseason playoff opportunities or brought national attention to its program, may be considered for induction as a Team of Distinction.
