Raleigh, N.C. – The Towson University women's basketball team dropped a tough 100-52 contest to No. 5-ranked NC State to close out the WNIT Preseason Classic.
Aleah Nelson scored a game-high 17 points on Monday night while Anissa Rivera also came close to double figures, with nine points in addition to four rebounds. Ryann Evans led her team off the glass with 10 boards.

How it Happened
- NC State jumped out to an early 7-0 lead but Aleah Nelson quickly got Towson on the board 4:00 into the contest. At the media timeout at 4:53, the Wolfpack owned the 12-4 edge.
- With just under 3:00 to go in the first, the Wolfpack went on a 10-0 run to take the 15-point edge.
- Freshman Mariah Wilson came in halfway through the second quarter and immediately got a steal and a driving layup for the Tigers. Skye Williams and Anissa Rivera went on to combine for 10 points in half, including a pair of 3-pointers. Evans also contributed a first half-best eight rebounds.
- NC State ended the opening half up, 50-20.
- To start the third, the Wolfpack went on an 11-point tear to extend their lead.
- Nelson came back in to give the Tigers a spark, scoring on three consecutive possessions halfway through the period. Nelson added a jumper at the horn to score nine third quarter points and get her team up to a score of 31.
- Allie Kubek started off scoring for Towson in the fourth, adding a turnaround jumper followed by a three-point play in the paint.
- Just before the media timeout at the 4:32 mark, the Tigers shot 4-of-4 from the floor with buckets from Tarriyonna Gary, Kubek, Nelson and Rivera. The black & gold would go on to have their best 10:00 of the night, netting 21 points in the fourth.
- NC State went on to score 12 points to finish the game and solidify the win.
Inside the Numbers
- Nelson has now scored in double-digits in four consecutive games to start off the season. The junior's 17 points against the Wolfpack came in just 23 minutes.
- Evans has grabbed double digit rebounds in back-to-back games after a contest-high 12 boards against Wofford on Sunday.
- Rivera ended the night with a game-high two blocks. Kubek and Evans also added one apiece to total four for the team. NC State did not land a block. Towson also added five steals.
Next Game
Towson will return home to finish out the month of November. The team will welcome Millersville on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. The Tigers will then host Howard (11/27) and Delaware State (11/29) to end the three-game home stand.
