Nelson Tabbed CAA Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. –  After impressive showings during all three of Towson's opening contests, Aleah Nelson has been named the women's basketball Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week. The conference made the announcement Monday afternoon.

Through three games, Nelson is averaging 23.7 points per game to lead the conference. She has scored in double-digits during all three games of the season, highlighted by a 39-point performance against Florida during the first round of the WNIT Preseason Classic. Her 39-point effort broke the scoring record at NC State's Reynolds Coliseum that was set in 1991. The junior also added eight assists, eight rebounds and two steals to help the Tigers earn their first win over a power five program since the 2009-10 campaign.

In addition, Nelson added 19 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in the season opener against Frostburg State (11/9) and contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists against Wofford (11/14).

With a total of 24 total helpers, Nelson has led her team in all three contests and ranks first in the CAA. After going 6-for-7 from beyond the arc against the Gators, she also tops the conference 3-point field goals per game, averaging 3.7 a night. She also ranks sixth in the league off the glass with 24 total boards to average 8.0 per game.

Towson will finish its time at the WNIT Preseason Classic on Monday, Nov. 15 against No. 5 NC State at 7 p.m. The contest will be held at the James T. Valvano Arena at William Neal Reynolds Coliseum and streamed on ACC Extra.
