TOWSON, Md. – Towson University defensive lineman Vinnie Shaffer has been selected as a member of the 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Football Team®, announced by the organization on Thursday.
 
This is the fourth year in a row where a Towson football player has been recognized on the CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams:
--2018-19: Grant Udinski, Zane Ventimiglia
--2019-20: Tom Flacco
--2020-21: Aaron Grzymkowski
--2021-22: Vinnie Shaffer
 
Shaffer was selected as a CoSIDA All-District® First Team member from District 2, which encompasses all Division I players, FCS and FBS, from Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.  All-District teams are voted on by CoSIDA members from schools in the district.
 
A transfer from Saint Anselm, Shaffer stands with a 3.40 grade point average (GPA) in accounting.  He is a five-time member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
 
On the field, Shaffer has started all 10 games for Towson, leading all Tiger defensive lineman with 33 total tackles.  The redshirt senior has also tallied up 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and a trio of quarterback hurries.
 
This achievement also nominates Shaffer for CoSIDA Academic All-America®, which will be announced on Dec. 15.  All CoSIDA members across the country vote for this award.
 
Shaffer and the Tigers take on James Madison on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
