TOWSON, Md. – With the spring season approaching for the Towson University women's lacrosse team, head coach Sonia LaMonica has announced the captains for the 2022 season.
Graduate students Rayna Deltuva and Kaitlin Thornton have been chosen by the coaching staff to lead the Tigers for the upcoming campaign.
Deltuva started all 18 games on defense during the 2021 season. She tied for second on the team with 15 caused turnovers and ranked third with 27 groundballs. The Manchester, Maryland native played a key role in Towson's clearing unit, which ranked 15th in the nation with a 90.3 percent success rate. She also added a goal and assist during her senior season.
Fifth on the team in scoring with 28 points, Thornton played a major part in the Tigers' offense last spring. With 23 goals and five assists, she had multiple points in eight games, including a season-best four goals against James Madison (April 18). The Stony Brook, New York native scored her 90th career goal against Hofstra (April 25). She has produced multiple points in 38 of 61 games in black & gold. Over her years in Tiger Town, Thornton has also garnered Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) praise as she was selected to the CAA-All Rookie Team (2018), All-CAA Second Team (2019) and Preseason All-CAA (2020).
Towson will open the spring 2022 season against Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. on Tiger Field.
