Lowell, Mass. – The Towson University women's basketball team earned its fifth consecutive win and second in a row on the road with a victory over UMass Lowell, 70-56, to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Aleah Nelson led the way with 25 points, nine rebounds and six assists while Allie Kubek and Skye Williams also joined her in double-digit scoring. Rayne Tucker also added seven points, eight boards and season-best four blocks.

How it Happened
- The contest started off slowly as Towson hit two 3-pointers through the first seven minutes of action. Nelson ended the drought at the 3:27 mark and the River Hawks followed up shortly after with their first bucket of the contest. The Tigers held the opposition scoreless for the opening 7:47 of the game.
- Towson played strong off the boards in the first, grabbing 20 rebounds to the UMass Lowell's seven.
- The black & gold heated up in the second, scoring 15 points before the media timeout at the 4:59 mark. Nelson led the team on a nine-point run to take their biggest lead of the contest at 18 points. Nelson netted nine points in the span herself.
- To end the second, Nelson shot 4-for-5 from the field while the Towson defense held UMass Lowell to 1-of-5.
- The River Hawks came out of the locker room looking for the rim, going on a 11-2 run to force a timeout halfway through the third. Williams, Nelson and Kubek found points before the end of the quarter and kept the 51-42 lead going into the fourth.
- Continuing from the third, Kubek started the final quarter shooting 5-of-6 from the field. It was Nelson though who showed out in the fourth, shooting 4-for-4 from the field for 11 points to help the Tigers secure their second consecutive road win, 70-56.
Inside the Numbers
- The 8-1 start is the best since the 2006-07 campaign when the team started off with a 10-1 record.
- For the second straight contest, Towson handed its opponent its first loss at home of the season. Prior to Wednesday afternoon, UMass Lowell was 2-0 at home while prior to Saturday, East Carolina was 4-0 on its own court.
- With six assists, Nelson has now led the Tigers in the stat in all nine games.
- As three Tigers reached double-digit scoring against the River Hawks, at least three players have cracked double figures in eight of nine games so far this season. Nelson and Kubek have now also scored in double digits in eight of nine contests.
- Following a 20-rebound first quarter, the black & gold totaled 45 boards after 40 minutes. While Nelson totaled a game-high nine boards, Tucker and Rivera also grabbed eight apiece.
- Towson held UMass Lowell to just six points in the opening quarter. The effort marks the seventh time this season the team has held an opponent to less than 10 points in a period.

The Tigers will return back to Maryland and take the short trip to face American on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. to finish out the three-game road trip.
