TOWSON, Md. - With the 2021 season less than two weeks away, Towson University women's lacrosse standout
Sami Chenoweth picked up her first preseason honor.
Inside Lacrosse announced its Preseason All-America lists Monday afternoon. Chenoweth was selected as a Third Team defender. The graduate student was named Third Team All-American by Inside Lacrosse after the shortened 2020 season. She ranked sixth in the nation in caused turnovers per game, averaging 2.33.
Chenoweth was one of five Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) student-athletes included on the list. Alyssa Parrella (Hofstra) was a Third Team pick as an attacker, while James Madison defenders Emma Johnson and Rachel Matey as well as goalkeeper Molly Dougherty earned Honorable Mention honors.
Chenoweth, a Manchester, Maryland native, ranks first in Towson history in career caused turnovers (151) and was one of 50 players invited to tryout for the United States team that will represent the nation in the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship.
Towson opens the 2021 season on the road at Mt. St. Mary's on Saturday Feb. 13. It will be the first meeting between the Tigers and the Mountaineers since the 2009 campaign.
