Williams Scores Career-High 20 in Women's Basketball Road Loss to Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – The Towson women's basketball team ended its six-game win streak, falling to Northeastern, 72-62, on Sunday afternoon in the Cabot Center.  

The Tigers split the series, as they defeated the Huskies Saturday afternoon, 90-69. 

Off the bench, Skye Williams led the team in scoring with a career-high 20 points. The junior guard shot 7-for-12 from the field.  

Allie Kubek joined Williams in double-digit scoring with 18 points. She also added a game-high nine rebounds and two from 3-point range.  

Stella Clark led the Huskies with 27 points and Maddie Vizza followed closely behind with 23 points.

Key Stats:   

  • Kubek set a new career-high with 18 points. Her previous high was 17 points which she netted twice against both Longwood and Salem. The freshman also set a new career-best with two 3-point field goals.  
  • Williams set new career-highs in three categories. She scored 20 points to edge out her previous best of 17 against La Salle earlier in the season. She also made seven field goals and three 3-pointers to erase her earlier highs of five and one, respectively.  

How it Happened:   

  • The first quarter got off to a slow start, with each team scoring 11 points.  
  • The Tigers opened up scoring in the second, to take the 15-11 lead. Williams and Kiara Johnson each cashed in on layups to take the four-point advantage. 
  • The Huskies didn't hesitate, tying the score at 18 with 7:25 to go.  
  • Northeastern ended the half with three consecutive 3-pointers to take the 31-28 lead into the locker room.  
  • LaKaitlin Wright and Shavonne Smith each scored in the first two minutes back from halftime to put the Tigers within one score of the lead.   
  • Aleah Nelson knotted the score at 36 with 7:00 to go in the third quarter.  
  • After a back-and-forth middle of the quarter, Northeastern scored five points in the last 3:00 to take the four-point edge into the fourth quarter.    
  • The Huskies started off the last quarter of play continuing a 12-1 run to put the team up 54-46. 
  • Towson held the Huskies to no field goals to end the game, but it was not enough to secure the win.  
  • Williams had her best quarter of play in the fourth, netting eight points and grabbing a single board.

  • Towson will return home to take on Drexel for a pair of games on Feb. 20 and 21. Both contests will be at 2 p.m. and be available on FloHoops.com.
