EDMONTON, Alberta – Former Towson University linebacker
Malik Tyne is officially on a Canadian Football League (CFL) roster, signing with the EE Football Team after being drafted in April.
Tyne had been taken 24
th overall in the 2020 CFL Draft by Edmonton back in April and was signed along with several members of his draft class this week. Tyne, a native of Ontario, was the first-ever Towson player to be selected in the CFL Draft.
With Towson from 2015-19, Tyne racked up 75 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He earned multiple sacks and at least three tackles for loss in each season in his final three years, being tied for third in FCS in 2019 with three fumble recoveries.
Three players, Tyne,
Tom Flacco and
Shane Leatherbury, signed contracts to play in the CFL for the 2021 season. Flacco is with the Saskatchewan Roughriders while Leatherbury will compete with the BC Lions. Other former Towson players who have competed in the CFL include
Frank Beltre, Telvion Clark, Dan Crowley, Andrew Hollingsworth, Mark Orlando, Gerrard Sheppard and
Darius Victor.
The EE Football Team will host Saskatchewan for the first week of 2021 on June 12
th.
