TOWSON, Md. – Two Towson University baseball players,
Josh Seils and
Burke Camper, have been ranked in the top-10 among Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) players in their respective Major League Baseball (MLB) draft classes by Perfect Game USA.
Seils is ninth among CAA players in the 2021 draft class while Camper is ninth among conference players in the 2022 draft class.
Players are placed in the draft class where they are next eligible to enter the MLB Draft. Seils was eligible last year, returning to Towson after a shortened MLB Draft. Camper, academically a sophomore, will be next eligible for the MLB Draft in 2022, his third year of being enrolled in a four-year academic institution.
Seils has been Towson's Friday starter the past two years, starting 17 games and striking out 73 batters since the start of 2019. Last year, he had a stellar performance against No. 7 Miami, throwing 6.1 innings with two runs and four strikeouts.
Camper was one of the league's top freshmen last year, playing all 15 games and hitting .314. Switching off between catcher and designated hitter, Camper added three doubles, eight runs and 11 RBI.
Towson's last draftee into MLB was
Richie Palacios, who was taken in the third round in 2018 by Cleveland. He and Brady Policelli, with the Detroit Tigers, are in the minor league ranks. The 2021 MLB Draft is set for July 11-13.
Perfect Game USA tracks amateur players in college and high school in preparation for the professional ranks.
