Swimming and Diving Opens 2020-21 Campaign at Navy

TOWSON, Md. -- The 2020-21 campaign will finally get underway for the Towson University men's and women's swimming and diving programs. The Tiger teams head to Annapolis, Maryland for a Saturday-morning showdown against the United States Naval Academy. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Lejeune Hall and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Off the Blocks
Saturday's meet at Lejeune Hall at the United States Naval Academy formally opens the 2020-21 campaign for the Towson University men's and women's swimming and diving programs. The Tigers held two Black & Gold Intrasquad meets at Burdick Hall over the last two months.

In The National Rankings
Neither Towson's men nor the women are currently mentioned in the CSCAA Coaches' Polls. Both Navy men and women are in the receiving votes column.

The Season-Opening Tigers
Towson formally opens the 2020-21 campaign, which will be a fast and furious two months of action. The Tigers last competed as a team at the 2019-20 CAA Championships in Christiansburg, Virginia in mid-February last year. Towson returns several medalists on both sides. As a men's team, the Tigers finished fourth at the CAA meet with 531.5 points. The women's side finished 557 points, good for third place in the league. On the final day of the meet, current senior Nick McClure took second in the 200-yard butterfly, touching in 1 minute, 45.71 seconds. On the boards, current senior Will Canny competed at the NCAA Zone Meet in Morgantown, West Virginia. Canny improved his score by 30 points year-over-year on the 3-meter board. He finished with 232.25 on the 3-meter and 188.60 on the 1-meter board. He finished 41st in both events.

Scouting rv Navy
The Mids will be in the pool competitively for the first time since Oct. 31, 2020 when both the men and women's teams took on Virginia in Annapolis. The men fell 181-117 while the women dropped a 188-107 result. Navy's divers had a strong showing, sweeping all four boards in the season opener. Ryan Waters won two events for the men's team, claiming victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.39) and the 500-freestyle (4:29.71). For the women, Navy saw Sydney Harrington touch second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.74) and the 100-yard butterfly (54.14). Madison Milbert finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.07).
