Towson Football Kicks Off 2021 Spring Practice

TOWSON, Md. – A year to the day after all athletic activities were suspended, the Towson University football team returned to the field for the first day of spring practice.

On March 12, 2020, the team had its second spring practice before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the suspension, and later cancelation, of all NCAA competition for the reminder of the academic year.  A year later, Towson is back on the field.

The Tigers practiced on the newly renovated Lower Fields Complex on Friday morning to kick off the spring season.  Towson will be holding spring practices through March and into April, including scrimmages on selected weekends.

"This is our favorite day in almost a year," said Towson head coach Rob Ambrose.  "We are gratified that we are able to practice the sport we love.  I have never seen so much talent being grateful and excited to practice.  It is a taste of normal life, what we have all been missing.  We are here, day one, practicing with helmets in great weather."

Towson did hold fall practices plus has been doing workouts on the field and in the weight room to prepare for the upcoming fall.

In 2019, the Tigers finished 7-5 overall, the second straight winning season for the program.  Towson is not competing during the 2020-21 academic year.
