ATLANTA, Ga. – Towson women's basketball assistant coach Cheyenne Curley has been named a Women's Basketball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 honoree. The WBCA made the announcement Wednesday morning.
Curley is in her second year of assistant coaching for Towson and has helped the Tigers to 27-24 record during her stint.
Before being promoted to the role of assistant coach, Curley served as the Director of Basketball Operations for five years.
Curley works primarily with the guards on the team, helping Kionna Jeter to become one of the top-scorers in the country and top-three in the CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) for two consecutive seasons. Curley also helped guide Q. Murray to set the second consecutive single-season assist record.
Before coming to Towson, Curley coached at San Diego City College. While coaching from the sidelines, she also worked as a residential care worker/supervisor at Varsity Team Inc. There she supervised troubled foster youth in a residential facility. Curley helped keep records on individual children of daily observations, behavior, activities and medications administered. She led youth independent living skills training and used her knowledge to provide counseling or therapy for mentally disturbed, delinquent or handicapped children.
In addition, Curley was also a coach/camp coordinator at the I9 Sports program. There she assisted in the planning and organization for youth sports programs. She facilitated and developed the curriculum for camps throughout the year. Curley also instructed and coached youth teams in different sports and provided instruction in general skills of the sports.
Curley is the only coach in the conference to earn the honor.
