WILMINGTON, N.C – The Towson women's basketball team led for all of but the first :47 seconds of its 77-66 rout of UNCW on Thursday night in Trask Coliseum. After scoring the first points of the contest at the 9:45 mark of the first quarter, the Tigers did not give up the lead for the remainder of the game.
Kionna Jeter led the squad netting a game-high 30 points, her sixth +30-point performance of the season. She also added six rebounds and four assists.
Skye Williams ran the offense at point guard for the majority of the game. The junior contributed 15 points, five boards and four helpers.
LaKaitlin Wright rounded out the three Tigers' double-digit scoring efforts, earning 10 points.
Kiara Johnson and Shavonne Smith each registered a team-high eight rebounds.
Carol-Anne Obusek led the Seahawks with a double-double 23 points and 18 rebounds. Towson held UNCW's top scorer Za'Nautica Downs to just eight points
Head Coach Diane Richardson did not travel with the team after being released from the hospital last weekend. Associate Head Coach Zach Kancher took over in her absence and led the Tigers to the win.
With another victory in tomorrow's matchup against UNCW, Towson would secure the second seed in the upcoming CAA Tournament with a 9-5 league record. James Madison would be the No. 3 seed with a conference record of 9-6 and Drexel would be the No. 4 seed with an 8-6 CAA mark. However, if the Seahawks win, the Tigers would slip into a third place tie with Dragons at 8-6. Towson would be seeded at No. 4 because the Drexel won the tiebreaker, sweeping Northeastern. In this scenario, the Dukes would be seeded second, finishing a half-game ahead of both the Tigers and Dragons. The CAA Tournament is set to begin on March 10 at Elon.
