TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's outdoor track and field team is set to compete at the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships beginning Friday, April 30 and concluding Saturday, May 1 at Sentara Park on the campus of James Madison University.
CAA Championship Meet Details
Friday's events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the field events, 11 a.m. for the decathlon and 1 p.m. for the running events. On Saturday, the field and running events will start at 11 a.m.

Last Year at the CAA Championships
The 2020 championships were canceled due to COVID-19. Elon hosted the championships in 2019. In 2019, Towson finished in second place with a 160.66 score behind Delaware.
Michella Obijiaku was named the meet's Most Outstanding Female Field Athlete after setting a meet record in winning the shot put with an effort of 16.23m (53'3").
Towson finished in third in 2018 and won the 2017 CAA Championships.
Mid-Atlantic Rankings
Going into the week, Towson is ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Outdoor Track & Field Index. Towson is the highest ranked CAA program in the weekly index.
CAA Awards
- Lauren Coleman was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Field Athlete of the Week on March 17 for her performance at the UNCW Invitational. She was victorious in the shot put and had a third-place finish in the hammer throw. In the shot put, she recorded a conference leading mark of 15.52m (50-11).
- Hayley Horvath was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week on March 24 after setting a Towson program record in the pole vault at the Bob Davidson Memorial Invite. She vaulted 4.13m (13-6.5) which is the top mark in the conference this season by 0.31m.
- Crystal Johnson was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week on April 7 after placing first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.66, the fastest time in the CAA this spring. Additionally, it ranks 41st in the NCAA East Region and 75th in the country.
Johnson also anchored Towson's 4x100m relay team that won and established the top mark in the CAA with a time of 46.27.
- For a second consecutive week, Johnson was named CAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week on April 14 after she sprinted her way to a Towson program record in the 100m dash with her time of 11.50 at the 2021 Aggie Invitational. The time ranks first in the CAA this season while sits 28th in the NCAA East Region and 48th in the Nation.
- Kayla Thorpe was named the CAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week on April 14. Thorpe won the javelin at the George Mason Spring Invitational launching the javelin 47.10m (154-6). The throw gives her the best mark in the CAA this spring by 1.85m while it ranks 34th in the NCAA East Region and 66th nationally. Thorpe also placed fourth at the meet in the shot put with a mark of 13.21m (43-4.25).
- Horvath won her second CAA Field Athlete of the Week on April 21 after rewriting the Towson record books in the pole vault finishing in second-place at the Virginia Challenge with a mark of 4.26m (13'11.75").
Last Time Out
Towson split for two separate meets. Some of the Tigers stayed local for the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational and others competed at the Virginia Challenge.
Crystal Johnson finished in second in the 200m finals with a time of 24.12 and
Lauren Coleman finished in fourth in the shot put with a 16.23m (53'3") throw matching the outdoor school record set by
Michella Obijiaku in 2019.
At the Hopkins/Loyola Invite,
Liana Wilkinson finished second in the heptathlon,
Deborah Gnoumou won the high jump (1.60m) and
Samantha Ronald won the pole vault (3.58m).
Tigers in the Community
- The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
- Towson was on track to have its 8th consecutive year of over 10,000 hours of community service in 2019-20 before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all activity. Towson finished with 7,527 hours last year, good for third in the NCAA Teamworks Helper Helper competition.
- Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson also won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
