Three Former Men’s Lacrosse Players on Training Camp Rosters

LOS ANGELES -- With training camp for year three of the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) set for this weekend in Massachusetts, three former Towson University men's lacrosse captains were selected to training camp rosters.

Fifth-year professional veteran Ryan Drenner and third-year pro Zach Goodrich were selected on the Cannons LC training camp roster, while another third-year pro player, Brendan Sunday, was among those picked for the Atlas LC training roster.

Drenner was picked up by the Cannons in the PLL Expansion Draft on March 11, following the franchise's move from the now defunct Major League Lacrosse. Goodrich, who won an MLL championship with the Cannons last summer in Annapolis, Maryland, was grabbed by the Cannons in the first round of the PLL Entry Draft. Sunday was the sixth pick in the third round of the Entry Draft by the Atlas.

The 2021 PLL season opens June 4-6 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The Cannons will play in the first game of the season, taking on Redwoods LC on June 4 at 7 p.m., live on Peacock, NBC's streaming service. Sunday and Atlas LC will begin their season on June 5 at 7:45 p.m., also at Gillette Stadium.

Below is a capsule on each players' professional careers.

Ryan Drenner (Cannons LC)
A 2017 Towson graduate, Ryan Drenner was a member of the first-ever championship team in the PLL, winning the 2019 title with Whipsnakes LC. The Finksburg, Marylander began his professional journey with the MLL's Florida Launch before making the move to the PLL for the 2019 season. Entering the 2020 PLL season, Drenner was moved to the Waterdogs LC. During his career in the PLL, Drenner has played in 15 games, logging 25 total points on 21 1-point goals, one 2-pointer and two assists. Drenner was selected to the 2019 PLL All-Star game in Los Angeles.

Zach Goodrich (Cannons LC)
Entering his third year in the professional ranks, Zach Goodrich, a 2019 Towson graduate, begins his time in the PLL as a champion, winning the 2020 MLL crown with the Boston Cannons. Absorbed in the fall of 2020, the newly-rebranded Cannons LC selected Goodrich in the first round as the sixth overall pick of the 2021 Entry Draft. Goodrich spent the 2020 campaign as an alternate captain for the Cannons. The 2020 MLL Maverick Defensive Player of the Year, Goodrich was selected to the 2019 MLL All-Star game in his rookie campaign. A native of Stevensville, Maryland, Goodrich will be reunited with Sean Quirk, who was the head coach of the Boston Cannons before joining up with Cannons LC in the PLL.

Brendan Sunday (Atlas LC)
Another Class of 2019 member, Brendan Sunday also begins his third year in professional lacrosse. Sunday spent his first MLL season with the Atlanta Blaze, which became the Philadelphia Barrage for the 2020 season. During his rookie year with the Blaze, Sunday was named to the MLL All-Star game, held at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Sunday helped lead the Philadelphia Barrage to the MLL semifinals during the 2020 bubble season in Annapolis, Maryland.
