TOWSON, Md. — Former Towson women's basketball player Kionna Jeter has signed with Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre P.D.M. to play professional basketball in Spain.
"I'd like to thank my family, friends, and everyone for the support," Jeter said. "I'd like to thank the country of Spain for the opportunity and believing in me. I'm a firm believer in whatever Gods has for you will always be for you and I'm ready to continue my journey that God has created for me."
Jeter makes the jump after a successful career at Towson. The guard was selected as the 2020-21 CAA Preseason Player of the Year and became the first Tiger to earn All-CAA First Team honors three seasons in a row. She finished her redshirt senior season averaging 23.0 points. Jeter scored in double figures 75 times in 83 career games on her way to recording 1,582 points to rank third overall on the Towson University women's basketball all-time scoring list.
The Spartanburg, S.C. native became the first player in program history to be selected in the WNBA Draft. She was chosen 36th overall by the Las Vegas Aces.
"After an injury kept her out of the WNBA this season, Jeter is returning to the court during the WNBA offseason to play overseas in a top league," Towson head coach Diane Richardson said. "I'm sure she'll use that motivation to get back to playing in front of friends and family here in the U.S. We are looking forward to watching her shine."
Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre P.D.M. finished the 2020-21 season ranked 14th in the Spanish Women's Basketball League (1st division) with an 8-22 record. Last season, the team's roster also features two other Americans in Lashann Higgs who played at Texas and Sarah Rhine from Drake.
Jeter will join alumna Nukiya Mayo in playing professionally, as the guard/forward just enjoyed a successful rookie season with PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece. Two other alumna, Tanisha McTiller and Dominique Johnson, have both retired from playing overseas.
