Top Moments of 2020-21: Men's Lacrosse

TOWSON, Md. -- It was an up-and-down season for the Towson University men's lacrosse program. The Tigers featured one of the strongest schedules in Division I during the 2021 season, returning to action under stringent guidelines after the 2020 season was shut down at the midway point due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Empty stadiums, daily testing and other policies could not stop the men's lacrosse program from putting up big wins throughout the spring.

Below are capsules on the top three moments from the 2021 men's lacrosse season at Towson University.

3) Towson Gets Revenge Over Hofstra
After faltering on the road in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action at Hofstra University on April 3, the Tigers returned 10 days later to knock off the No. 17/No. 15 Pride at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium, topping Hofstra 10-8. In a rare mid-week conference showdown, the Tiger defense held off a furious come-back attempt from the Pride, withstanding a four-goal fourth quarter. Shane Brennan made a stop with 30 seconds left and started the game-sealing clear. Towson jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and never looked back thanks to a 7-3 halftime lead. Brody McLean tucked away four goals while the unrelated Jake McLean potted a pair from the midfield. Carson Gaeger added two goals while Alex Reid had two assists. Brennan made 14 stops in the Tigers' second-straight win over a ranked opponent.

2) Milani Scores OTGWG Against Saint Joseph's
After nearly 90 seconds of overtime action, redshirt freshman Andrew Milani scored the game-winning goal for the Tigers as Towson topped visiting Saint Joseph's University 8-7 in the home opener. After a 6-2 lead wilted away to a 7-7 tie through 60 minutes, Towson took advantage of its lone possession in extra time. Brody McLean had a hand in half of Towson's goals, logging three of his own and adding an assist. Casey Wasserman and Andrew Beacham notched a goal and an assist each. Shane Brennan turned aside 11 attempts from the Hawks.

1) Towson Drops Highly-Ranked Loyola for Second-Straight at Unitas ® Stadium.
For the second time in as many home games against long-time rival, No. 12/No. 12 Loyola University Maryland, the Towson Tigers bested a highly-ranked Greyhound squad. At high noon on a Saturday in late March, the Tigers trailed 5-2 midway through the third quarter before reeling off four straight for a 6-5 lead. The visitors tied the action at 6-6 with three minutes to play. Shane Brennan made a crucial save 75 seconds into overtime, giving the Tigers a chance on offense, setting up midfielder Tim Montgomery for the game-winning goal, the Tigers' second overtime victory of the season.
