TOWSON, Md. — Lauren Coleman has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) nominee for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year award for the second consecutive season.  

Coleman earned the nomination in 2020 after a stellar senior season.

This afternoon, the NCAA announced the 152 conference-level honorees from a pool of 353 women for the national award.  

"The accolades keep rolling in," head coach Mike Jackson said. "Lauren is a true testament of what the NCAA Woman of the Year award represents. I couldn't be prouder of her!" 

Coleman ended her final season in black & gold with seven first place finishes in the shot put and six top five finishes in the hammer throw in the outdoor season. At the UNCW Invitational, the graduate student captured first place in the shot and took third in the hammer, earning CAA Field Athlete of the Week honors in mid-March. She reached the rank of No. 14 in the nation in the shot put. The Bowie, Maryland native also claimed both the CAA and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) shot put titles for the third time in her collegiate career. To cap off a successful spring, Coleman qualified for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary meet in both the shot put, for the third time, and hammer throw.

In addition to her on-field performance, Coleman also earned praise in the classroom as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete and a CAA Institutional Scholar-Athlete.  

Later this fall, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will choose the top 10 honorees from each of the three divisions. The top 30 honorees will be announced in September. From there, the selection committee will narrow the pool to three finalists from each division. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2021 Woman of the Year from the nine finalists.
