Cuervo Places Ninth At Central American and Caribbean Games

San Salvador, Santa Domingo – Cristal Cuervo of Towson University track & field represented her home country of Panama in the 2023 XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, Santa Domingo Wednesday evening.

The Central American and Caribbean Games are a multi-sport event, held every 4 years since originating in 1926. Athletes from 36 countries come together to compete in 38 different sports over the course of two weeks (Jun. 23 – Jul. 8). The location of the games vary, taking place in different countries within the Central America and the Caribbean Sea basin region. Hosted by Centro Caribe Sports, this event is also the oldest regional multidisciplinary event in the world. 

Cuervo competed in the games last year, placing fifth in both the 200m (23.95) and 400m (55.57).

The rising junior competed in the Athletics Competition section of the games, held from July 2 to July 8 at Jorge "El Mágico" González National Stadium. Cuervo competed in the second heat of the 200m dash, clocking her third fastest time this season of 23.83. The Panama native placed ninth overall, narrowly missing finals by one spot.
