First Serve
It's the first of two straight non-stop weekends for the Towson University women's volleyball program as the Tigers welcome Stony Brook, Loyola Maryland, Princeton and Morgan State to SECU Arena for the Towson Invitational.

In The National Rankings
None of the teams involved in the Towson Invitational were mentioned among the AVCA's Top 25, nor were any teams receiving votes in the organization's weekly coaches' poll.

Scouting the Homestanding Tigers
After spending opening weekend in the Greater Baltimore Area, the Tigers return home to SECU Arena with a 4-0 record, topping Morgan State, Cleveland State and Binghamton in straight sets, followed by a five-set thriller at Navy on Sunday. Towson had solid efforts in all phases of the game, including defensively as the Tigers held all four opponents to a combined 0.026 hitting percentage for the weekend. The Tigers put away 34.5 total blocks, including 14 from the hands of Lydia Wiers (1.27/s). Fay Bakodimou led the Tigers all over the court, averaging 2.79 kills per set while dropping in a team-best eight service aces. Emily Jarome was good for 2.71 kills per frame while Nina Cajic went for 2.57 a set. Wiers had Towson's top hitting percentage, putting away swings at a .433 rate while averaging 2.36 kills per set. Rachel Hess pulled on the libero jersey all weekend, grabbing 3.79 digs per set, backing the Tigers' stout blocking efforts. Towson's servers were in fine form over the weekend, tucking away 27 service aces on the weekend, averaging just shy of two aces per set. Big servers Bakodimou and Jarome scored eight and seven, respectively. Towson will need to shore up its serve receive this weekend however; the Tigers were hit with 17 reception errors. Towson had its finest offensive outing of the young season against Cleveland State, hitting with .531 efficiency.

Last Time Out: at Navy | Aug. 29, 2021 | Annapolis, Md. | Wesley A Brown Field House
Towson had its stiffest challenge yet as the Tigers and Navy battled to a five-set thriller in the state capital on Sunday. Towson rallied from a 2-1 deficit (25-20, 18-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-6) in front of a boisterous crowd at Wesley A. Brown Field House. Emily Jarome led Towson with 15 kills, followed closely by Fay Bakodimou (13) and Nina Cajic (10). Rachel Hess backed the Tigers with 20 digs while Megan Wilson pushed up a season-best 45 assists. Towson hit for .218 in the match, but held the Mids to a .136 thanks to 13.5 total blocks, seven of which involved Lydia Wiers. Navy had a match-high 16 kills from Avery Stowell, who was held in check with a .170 hitting percentage with 47 swings and eight errors.

With a Win Against Stony Brook on Friday, Towson Would...
- Win its home opener for a third-straight season.
- Improve to 7-0 all-time against the Seawolves.
- Win its 29th straight regular season match, dating back to Sept. 14, 2019 in a sweep of UAlbany.
- Collect its 15th straight home victory, dating back to that match against UAlbany.
- Win its 69th match all-time at SECU Arena.

Just a Brick in the Wall
- Towson's defense was a venerable brick wall last weekend.
- The Tigers held all four opponents to a combined .026 hitting percentage, thanks to 34.5 total blocks across four matches.
- Towson's finest blocking outing of the young season came at Navy as the Tigers combined for 13.5 blocks.
- The Tigers held two opponents (Morgan State and Binghamton) to negative hitting percentages; Cleveland State went for .000 while Navy was the only opponent on the clear side of even with a .136 for the day.

The Ace of Spades (The Ace of Spades)
- Towson's serving was on fire last weekend as the Tigers combined for 27 aces across 14 sets and four matches.
- The Tigers lit up Morgan State and Cleveland State for eight aces in each match, including four from Emily Jarome against Cleveland State.
- The combined 27 aces were the most for a Towson team through the first four matches of the year since the 2016 campaign when Towson dimed in 41 aces in the first four matches, including 19 against Alabama A&M (at total that out-paced the next three seasons' first four matches).
- Fay Bakodimou and Emily Jarome led the way at the service line with eight and seven service aces, respectively.

Back 2 Back with Home Cookin'
- Towson won its second-straight CAA Women's Volleyball Championship, sweeping both Charleston (semifinals) and Northeastern (finals).
- Towson is the first CAA team to repeat as champions since James Madison won titles in 2016-17.
- Since Towson joined the league in 2002, there have now been five repeat champions

Mr. 400
- Last weekend, Towson head coach Don Metil picked up the 400th win of his head coaching career, coming in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 come-from-behind win at Navy.
- Entering the spring 2021 season, Metil is 42nd among NCAA coaches with a minimum five years as a Division I head coach.
- Metil is 400-199 all-time (.668) as a head coach.

Still the Reigning Champs
- The Tigers remain as the reigning champions of the league, winning their second-straight CAA crown in Spring 2021 for the 2020 season.
- The Tigers hoisted the league trophy after a perfect 4-0 regular season in the spring of 2021, which includes a 2-0 mark in league play. Towson put together a 16-0 CAA campaign in 2019, paired with 3-1 win over Elon and a sweep of James Madison in the Tournament.
- There are nine current Tigers currently on the roster that were members of the historic back-to-back championship teams: Katie McCracken, Ally Townsend, Lydia Wiers, Asia Goins, Fay Bakodimou, Kristin Spengler, Emily Jarome, Morgan Wilson, and Nikiya Mitchell.
- Towson is the first team to repeat as CAA Champions since JMU won back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017.

League of Their Own
Over the last six seasons, Towson has been one of the top teams in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Since the 2015 campaign, the Tigers have racked a 62-20 record in league play, including a record-setting 16-0 mark in 2019 and a 2-0 record in 2020/1. Towson has not dropped a regular season match to a CAA opponent since Oct. 27, 2018 at Charleston in a five set thriller. The Tigers have won their last 23 CAA matches, reaching back to a sweep of Delaware at home on March 7.

Two Legs vs Four Legs
- Mascots come in all shapes, sizes, animals and breeds and people. But that hasn't stopped the Tigers this season.

- Two of Towson's 2019 losses came against two-legged foes, the Scarlet Knights and Chanticleers, before falling to the four-legged Nittany Lions.
- Towson went 3-1 in 2020/1 against four-legged mascots, topping Stony Brook (Seawolves), Charleston (Cougars) and Northeastern (Huskies) but falling to Dayton (see last line).

- Since moving into SECU Arena full time in 2013, Towson has racked up an impressive 68-23 overall record at SECU Arena.
- The Tigers have three seasons with double digit wins, including a 10-3 mark in 2017.
- The Tigers finished 2018 strong at home with a three-match win streak.
- The Tigers finished 2019 with a 12-1 overall mark at SECU Arena, with an 8-0 mark in the CAA.
- Towson has won 14 straight at home since early in 2019.

Wins on Wins on Wins on Wins
Over the last five seasons, the Tigers have been a tough out for opponents. Between 2016 and 2020, the Tigers have racked up a 103-34 overall record, which ranks 25th among NCAA Division I teams in terms of total wins in that span. With a winning percentage of .752 over the last five years, Towson ranks 22nd among fellow Division I teams in terms of winning percentage

Tigers in the Community
- For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season.
- Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition.
- Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations.
- Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
