Women's Swimming & Diving Returns to Action at JMU

Back in the Water
After nearly two months away from competition, the Towson women's swimming and diving team returns to action this weekend with rematch against the Dukes of James Madison. It's the second meeting between squads this season after Towson topped the Dukes 157-143 in the season opener back on October 9, 2021 at Burdick Pool.

In The National Rankings
In the December CSCAA Coaches' Polls, neither men's or women's programs are mentioned among the CSCAA Preseason Coaches Poll this fall.

One the Road Again - Women
Another week, another road trip.

The Towson University women's swimming and diving team returns to action with another road meet, this time heading to Harrisonburg, Virginia for a dual against the Dukes.

The Tigers are coming off a dominating performance at the Bucknell Invitational, leading all three days and winning the event with 1,448.5 points after 40 events. Towson won by nearly 150 points over Bucknell's 1,306.5.

Towson picked up seven individual podium finishes at the Bucknell Invitational: Maddie Mince won the 50 free (23.15) with the fifth-fastest time in school history. Karlee Carminati took second in the 1650 free (16:44.60) and third in the 500 free (4:52.40). Samantha Casolo went second in the 200 yard butterfly (2:01.60). Meagan Clark took second in the 200 yard free (1:49.21), Christina Coleman finished third on the 3-meter board (261.05) and Hailey Ritter was second in the 100 butterfly (55.01).

The Tigers have a jam-packed month ahead; Towson will compete seven times between Saturday and the CAA Championships in mid-February, with just one home event on the schedule: January 29 against Delaware.

Will We Ever Compete Again? - Men
The Tiger men's swimming and diving team is idle for one more week before returning to action on Wednesday at Loyola for a midweek nonconference dual on Charles Street.

On the Road Again (Again)
- Both the Towson men's and women's swimming and diving teams continue their long road swings to open the 2021-22 campaign.
- After the women opened the season at home, both sides are on the road until Jan. 29, 2022 when both teams return to Burdick Pool.
- This weekend's meet is first event for the Tigers this calendar year, but the trip to Harrisonburg will be Towson's second-longest road meet of the year.
- The four-mile trip down Charles Street to Loyola University Maryland on Jan. 19 is Towson's shortest trip of the year.

CAA Diver of the Week - Nov. 23
-Christina Coleman was selected as the CAA Women's Diver of the Week on Nov. 23.
- Coleman is the third Tiger to win the award this season (Meagan Clark Oct. 12, Alyssa Largay Oct. 19)
- Coleman finished third at the Bucknell Invitational on the 3-meter board with 261.05 points.
- She added 10 points from her preliminary round score.
- On the 1-meter board, Coleman took seventh (224.60), but qualified third with a 252.15 dive.

CAA Diver of the Week - Nov. 9
- Ajani Dorner was named CAA Men's Diver of the Week on Nov. 9.
- Dorner won both diving events in the Tigers' meet at UMBC.
- The junior picked up 274.87, winning by nearly 20 points on the 1-meter board.
- In the 3-meter event, Dorner landed 262.80 points, winning by just under a point.
- He is the third Tiger to win a weekly honor this year.

CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week - Oct. 26
- Brian Benzing was picked as the CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 26.
- Benzing won the 100-yard breaststroke again, setting a pool record at William & Mary in 55.29.
- The Catonsville, Marylander doubled with a win in the 100-yard butterfly, touching in 49.29.
- Benzing swam on the winning 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams as well.

CAA Women's Diver of the Week - Oct. 19
- Alyssa Largay was named CAA Women's Diver of the Week on Oct. 19.
- The junior transfer won the 1-meter dive at Navy last weekend while qualifying for NCAA Zones later this season with a 278.10.
- The Paradise Valley, Arizonan scored a second-place finish in the 3-meter event as well.
- It is the second weekly honor won by a member of the women's team this fall, joining Meagan Clark's honor to open the season.

CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week - Oct. 19
- Ryan Baldino opened his season with a CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week performance, announced Tuesday.
- The senior freestylist won the 100-yard freestyle, with a third-place effort in the 200-yard free.
- He was on two successful relays, including the winning 200-yard freestyle event.
- It was Towson's first weekly honor of the year on the men's side this season.

In the first meeting of the season between Towson and James Madison it came down to the wire as the Tigers topped the visiting side 157-143. Towson won nine events along the way, including double distance wins from Karlee Carminati and Meagan Clark.

On the boards, Alyssa Largay picked up 269.40 points to win, with Sarah DiGaetano adding 258.45 for third place. DiGaetano won the event with a 253.13.
