LEXINGTON, Va. – The Towson women's indoor track and field team took home a first place team finish at the VMI Team Challenge on Saturday evening.
The Tigers totaled 138 points, beating out eight other women's teams at the event and second place George Mason by 26 points.
Four Tigers also took home first place finishes, including Crystal Johnson who won both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash.
How it Happened
- Towson took the top two finishes in the 60 meter dash as Johnson came in first with a time of 7.48. Cristal Cuervo followed with a personal best of 7.75 in her collegiate debut and first ever indoor meet.
- Johnson also came out on top in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 24.94.
- Taylor Robinson placed second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.00) followed by Tajah Martin-Palmer (9.27) and Deborah Gnouou (9.29) iin fourth and fifth.
- Ainsley Jacobs came in first in the mile with a time of 5:05.27 to rank third all-time in program history. Alison Betler also came in fourth, clocking a 5:30.09.
- Jacobs continued with another strong performance in the 800 meters, taking silver with a time of 2:21.63.
- Aliyah Anderson came in fifth in the high jump with a new personal best of 1.55 meters. She also took fourth in the triple jump with a score of 11.01 meters, followed by Skylar Holmes who placed fifth (10.89).
- Towson dominated in the shot put, placing three Tigers inside the top-5. Kayla Thorpe took gold with a throw of 13.53. Fatimah Owens claimed a new personal best of 12.78 to place third and Georgia Coleman threw a 12.56 to take fourth.
- Coleman followed up with a third place finish in the weight throw, with a toss of 17.03 meters. Owens secured fifth with a mark of 15.47.
Next Up
To finish out the month of January, the team will travel to Penn State National, Jan. 21-22. The Tigers will then head back to Virginia for the Patriot Games on Jan. 29, hosted by George Mason.
