TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's basketball team handed James Madison its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, 79-70. With the win, the Tigers remain unbeaten in SECU Arena and in the conference.
Allie Kubek led the offense, netting a career-high 28 points while adding eight boards, two steals and a block. The sophomore shot 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, her third consecutive performance with at least three three-point field goals.
Anissa Rivera also contributed 20 points, three three's and two steals. Rayne Tucker produced a big game against her former team as well, scoring 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and two steals.

How it Happened
- The two teams traded baskets to start the contest as James Madison came out with a slight 7-6 lead. Tucker got out to a hot start though, scoring five points and grabbing a steal in the opening three minutes.
- Both teams continued on to go scoreless for the middle three minutes of the period, shooting 0-of-4 from the field in the span. Kubek ended the streak, hitting one from beyond the arc. She went on to score five more points and give the Tigers an 11-7 lead.
- Towson ended the period on a 13-2 run and held James Madison to just nine points, 18-9.
- JMU rallied in the second, scoring nine in the opening three minutes of play to tie the score, 18-18.
- Rivera put the Tigers back on the board though, with a layup, and Kubek followed with a three-point play to regain the 23-21 lead.
- The teams continued to trade both points and the lead for the remainder of the period. However, it was Towson who went into the locker room with the three-point advantage, 34-31.
- The teams continued the back-and-fourth play to start the third, as the Dukes took the 42-41 edge at the 6:59 media timeout. Towson came out of the break on a 6-0 run, holding James Madison scoreless in the span. Rivera led the black & gold in stretch, scoring on back-to-back possessions.
- Despite efforts from the opposition, the Tigers ended the third on another 6-0 run, going 3-of-3 from the field. Rivera scored 13 points in the third period, going 4-for-5 from the field and 2-of-3 from deep.
- Towson did not let up in the fourth, as Kubek netted 9 points to secure her new career best.
Inside the Numbers
- The victory marks the Tigers' third in conference and seventh at home this season to remain undefeated in both categories.
- As the black & gold held JMU to nine points in the first quarter, the team has now held their opponent to less than 10 points in a quarter eight times this campaign.
- Towson remains unbeaten when leading at the half, 12-0. The team is also a perfect 12-0 when they net over 60 points.
- The black & gold scored 29 fast break points to the Dukes' seven. The total is the fourth highest for the Tigers this season and their best in the past eight games.
- At least two Tigers have cracked double figures in 13 of 14 outings so far this season. Kubek have now also scored 10+ points in 13 of 14 contests, including the last nine games.
- Kubek's 28-point effort beats her previous career best of 25 which she secured against Wofford (Nov. 14). The performance also marks the 20th double-digit game of her collegiate career.
- Aleah Nelson dished out a season-high 10 assists on Sunday, just one shy of her career-high. The junior has now led the team (or tied to lead the team) in the stat in all but one game this season.
- Kylie Kornegay-Lucas brought in eight rebounds to set a new season-high.
Next Game
The Tigers will hit the road for a quick turnaround to play a rescheduled game at Drexel, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. Towson will then travel to the Carolinas for a pair of road contests against Charleston (Jan. 21, 7 p.m.) and UNCW (Jan. 23, 1 p.m.).
