CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Towson women's basketball team fell in a back-and-forth contest on the road to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe, College of Charleston, 88-72.
Aleah Nelson and Kylie Kornegay-Lucas led the Tigers with 17 points apiece. Kornegay-Lucas also added six assists and seven rebounds. Anissa Rivera joined the pair in double figures with 13 points.
Allie Kubek ended the day with nine points, four assists, eight rebounds and a career-high four blocks. Rayne Tucker paced the team off the glass though, securing nine boards in addition to three steals.

How it Happened
- Both teams found the basket early before going onto trade possessions for the opening 3:00.
- Charleston started puttnig the pressure on early, holding Towson 0-for-4 from the field for the middle of the period. Tucker ended the dry spell with a layup while Kubek and Kornegay-Lucas followed up with their own buckets as the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to take the 9-7 edge.
- The Cougars tied the score back up at 11-11, with 3:00 to go in the period. The two teams went back-and-forth the rest of the way, but it was the Tigers who came out with the 19-18 edge.
- Towson scored three points to start the second, but the CofC quickly answered to knot the score back up once again, 22-22. Charleston hit a three-pointer to gain the 25-22 edge at the 6:32 media timeout.
- The Tigers went on another run, netting six unanswered points over a 3:00 period to secure the 30-27 advantage. The team hit 4-of-5 from the field while holding the Cougars to 1-of-8 shooting. Kornegay-Lucas scored four points in the streak, to reach a perfect 4-for-4 from the field in the first half.
- The black & gold went into the locker room with the 35-33 lead. The Tigers held the Cougars to just 25.6 percent shooting in the first half, forcing five turnovers.
- Towson struck first in the third, but Charleston followed up with five points of their own to go up, 40-37. The Cougars continued to find the rim, 46-41, halfway through the period. The opposition maintained consistent scoring and took a nine-point lead into the final quarter, 57-48.
- The Tigers attempted to rally in the fourth, as Nelson went off, scoring 14 points. She led the team as they shot 4-of-4 from the field through the middle of the period. The effort was not enough however, as the CofC netted a game-high 31 points in the final 10:00 to secure the 88-72 win.
Inside the Numbers
- At least two Tigers have cracked double figures in 15 of 16 outings so far this season as three scored in double figures against the Cougars. Nelson has now scored 10+ points in 14 of 16 contests, including the last two games. Friday's 17-point outing for the junior marks the 30th double-digit performance of her career.
- Towson scored 26 fast break points and 37 bench points.
- Kornegay-Lucas' 17 points and six assists marks new season-highs for her in both categories.
- Kubek's four blocks beat her previous collegiate record of three which she set against Wofford (Nov. 14). The sophomore has also reached four assists in back-to-back games to tie her career high.
- The decision ends a seven-game win streak for Towson against Charleston. It also marks head coach Diane Richardson's second career loss to the Cougars.
