CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Towson women's basketball team defeated UNCW on the road in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) showdown on Sunday afternoon, 72-49.
Allie Kubek paced a group of three Tigers in double figure scoring with 21 points in addition to adding six rebounds, three steals and a block. Ryann Evans secured her first career double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Aleah Nelson joined the pair, scoring 14 points.
Kylie Kornegay-Lucas had a very well-rounded game with seven points, nine rebounds, eight assists, two blocks and a career-high five steals.

How it Happened
- Towson got out to an early 6-0 lead just 4:00 into the contest. UNCW rallied, hitting a pair of shots to cut its deficit, 8-4, at the 4:31 media timeout.
- The Seahawks went on a 6-0 run over the last :54 to put the score within two points, 17-15, at the end of one. Ryann Evans came out hot, securing five points and seven rebounds at the end of the first.
- The Tigers began the second period on a 7-0 run to take the 24-15 edge. Evans carried the momentum, with an offensive board and score to force a UNCW timeout just 2:00 into the second.
- Both teams failed to find the basket through the middle 4:00 of the period but it was Nelson who ended the drought with a jumper. Kornegay-Lucas hit one along with another from Nelson to give the Tigers the 30-22 advantage.
- Towson ended the quarter on a 9-0 run, hitting its final five shots of the half. The team simultaneously held UNCW 0-for-6 from the floor with no baskets for the last 3:07 of the half. The Tigers also forced four turnovers in the final moments of the period.
- The teams were evenly matched coming out of the locker room, as both earned eight points at the 4:37 mark. Kubek scored all eight of Towson's points. She ended the third with 10 of the Tigers' 16 points.
- Just before the 2:30 mark, Evans hit one from deep to force a UNCW timeout and give the black & gold the 19-point lead, 51-32. With the basket, Evans secured her first double-double of the season.
- Kubek and Kornegay-Lucas hit a pair of three's to start the final quarter of play. Quinzia Fulmore entered the game and scored six points in just two minutes of action, going 3-for-3 from the field to lead the team in the final quarter.
- The black & gold ended the contest hitting their last four shots while holding the opposition to 2-of-10 from the field. The team scored a game-high 21 points in the fourth to bring home the 23-point win.
Inside the Numbers
- The Towson defense held UNCW to 32.2 percent shooting during the game, the ninth time this season the team has held its opponent to under 35.5 percent shooting. The Tigers ended the day shooting 46.4 percent from the floor, their third highest percentage this season.
- As one of the top-10 rebounding teams in the country, the black & gold grabbed 42 rebounds. The Tigers have now secured 40+ rebounds in 15 games this season and out-rebounded the opponent in 10 outings.
- At least two Tigers have cracked double figures in 16 of 17 outings so far this season as three scored in double figures against the Seahawks. Nelson and Kubek have now scored 10+ points in 15 of 17 contests, including the last three games.
- With 11 steals, the team registered their seventh double-digit takeaway game. Towson has generated 325 total points this season off turnovers, for 20.3 points per game.
- Evans' 14 points and 11 rebounds marks new season highs for her in both categories. Her 11 boards turned out to be just one shy of tying her career high, 12.
- Kornegay-Lucas set new season bests with nine rebounds and eight assists. Her five steals beat out her previous career-high of four which she set at UVA.
- TU held UNCW's leading scorer, Sierra Dacosta to just six points in the first half. She ended with 13 points.
- The team ended the day with eight blocks. Evans, Kornegay-Lucas and Narrie Dodson all led the way with two points apiece.
- Towson scored 20 bench points as well as 18 fast break points. UNCW scored just six in both categories.
- As the black & gold held UNCW to just seven points in the first quarter, the team has now held their opponent to less than 10 points in a quarter nine times this campaign.

After three consecutive games on the road, the Tigers will return home to SECU Arena to welcome Northeastern on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. and Hofstra ono Jan. 30 at 2 p.m.
