TOWSON, Md. – Newly hired Towson University football head coach
Pete Shinnick is starting to fill out his staff for the upcoming season, announcing four hires today.
Brian Sheppard, Darian Dulin, Alex Krutsch and Britton Myers have joined the Towson coaching staff in preparation for the 2023 season.
Three of these new assistant coaches, Dulin, Krutsch and Myers, follow Shinnick from the University of West Florida. Shinnick was a two-time DII Coach of the Year with the Argos, helping West Florida to a 56-21 record from 2016-22, including the 2019 NCAA championship and the 2017 NCAA title game.

Brian Sheppard – Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
Sheppard comes to Towson to serve as the offensive coordinator (OC) and quarterbacks coach, being in the same role at Stetson in 2022. Sheppard enters with 10 years of experience as an OC and 16 years of experience in coaching.
In 2022, Stetson had the top passing offense in the Pioneer League (PFL) with 295.9 yards in the air per game, including the PFL Freshman Offensive Player of the Year, who was also second in the conference with 245.6 total yards per offense a game.
Sheppard has served as a collegiate coach since 2006, including stops at Minnesota (2020-21), VMI (2018-19), Northern Arizona (2017), Indiana State (2013-16), Willamette (2012), West Virginia Wesleyan (2011), UCLA (2010), New Mexico State (2007-09) and Tulsa (2006). He is a former quarterback at Saddleback J.C., Southeastern Louisiana and Baker, graduating from Baker in 2006.
Darian Dulin – Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs
Dulin served as Shinnick's defensive coordinator at West Florida from 2017 to 2022. The longtime defensive coordinator also was previously a head coach at Coffeyville C.C. for four seasons.
West Florida served as one of the top scoring defenses in the Gulf South Conference (GSC), including top-three in the league in 2019 and 2022. The Argos finished top-two in sacks per game two of the past three seasons played. In the past two years, three West Florida players earned All-America recognition plus ten Argos earned All-GSC honors, including six on the First Team.
Previously, Dulin coached at Abilene Christian (2012-16), Coffeyville C.C. (2008-11), Tarleton State (2000-03, 2005-07), Butler C.C. (2004), Sam Houston State (1998-99) and Kansas Wesleyan (1997). He graduated from Southwestern College in 1997 and earned his Master's Degree from Tarleton State in 2001.
Alex Krutsch – Special Teams Coordinator/Outside Linebackers
Krutsch has been part of Shinnick's coaching staff since 2013, including two years at UNC Pembroke and then being one of the first assistant coach hires at West Florida.
Krutsch served as the defensive line coach, helping the Argos finish in the top-two in sacks per game in the GSC in two of the past three seasons, plus had an All-American in 2017 who set the GSC single season record with 14.5 sacks. Four West Florida defensive linemen earned all-league recognition the past three seasons.
Before his two years at UNC Pembroke, Krutsch was at North Central (2012) and Northern Illinois (2010-11). He holds two degrees from Northern Illinois, receiving his undergraduate degree in 2008 and earning his Master's Degree in 2011.
Britton Myers – Inside Linebackers
Myers spent a combined four seasons at West Florida, including the last two years as the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. He has been coaching collegiate and high school football since 2013.
The last two years, five Argo linebackers earned all-league recognition, including having a top-3 player in total tackles in the GSC in each 2021 and 2022. As the special teams coordinator, West Florida finished fifth in DII in net punting and tenth in DII in kickoff return average in 2022, having All-America honorees at punter, kicker and returner in his two years.
Myers had two stints at Knox College in 2019 and 2017-18, also spending the 2013-14 seasons at Lane Tech College Prep. He graduated from Indiana in 2011, playing club baseball, and earned his Master's Degree from West Florida in 2019.
