TOWSON, Md. – A 41-point effort in the second half led the Towson University women's basketball team from behind to defeat UNCW, 67-51, on Friday night.
Allie Kubek led the team with 18 points while also adding eight rebounds and two steals. Aleah Nelson also contributed 17 points.
The Tigers played strong defense as well, as they beat the Seahawks off the glass, 48-30, including 21 offensive boards. The team also landed eight blocks to tie their season high.

How it Happened
- Towson scored its first basket just over 2:00 into action to tie the score, 2-2. UNCW answered with a jumper and a three-pointer to take back the 7-2 edge.
- The Tigers rallied as Anissa Rivera and Ryann Evans added points to put the score within one, 7-6. A pair of shots from the line from Kubek gave the Tigers their first lead of the contest, 8-7.
- The teams traded the lead through the end of the period as the Seahawks emerged with the 16-11 lead.
- UNCW retained the lead to start the second. Towson tied it up in the sixth minute however, with a layup from Nelson but UNCW quickly took back the 21-18 lead back.
- After the 4:55 media timeout, Kubek made one from the charity stripe to again knot the score, 21-21. The Seahawks had the answer once again though, scoring on consecutive possessions to retake the four-point advantage, 25-21.
- Nelson closed out the first half with a driving layup to put the contest back within one point, 27-26.
- The back and forth first half featured four ties and four lead changes. UNCW owned control of the contest for all but 1:26.
- The Seahawks continued their momentum into the second half, hitting a three in the first 40 seconds of action. Nelson answered with her own score from beyond the arc to give the Tigers the 33-31 edge. Narrie Dodson followed up with a basket off a great look from Kylie Kornegay-Lucas to extend the Tigers' lead, 37-35, and force a Seahawks timeout.
- Out of the 4:13 media timeout, the Tigers came alive, going on a 16-0, to take the 49-25 edge. Nelson led the way with nine big third quarter points.
- The team also forced seven turnovers in an eight-minute span to hold UNCW scoreless for the last 6:34 of the period. The Seahawks only scored eight points in the quarter.
- The Black & Gold stayed in control in the fourth quarter, continuing their run to net 23 unanswered points.
- UNCW tried to work its way back into the game but Towson ended hitting 6-of-8 from the field to secure the 16-point victory and season sweep over UNCW.

- Towson completed the season sweep over UNCW with the win on Friday night. The Tigers have now completed season sweeps over Elon, William & Mary, James Madison and UNCW.
- The team has held its opponents to less than 10 points in a quarter 12 times this season. The Tigers most recently held UNCW to eight points in the third quarter of action.
- With the victory over the Seahawks, the Black & Gold are just one win away from their third 20-win season in program history.
- At least two Tigers have cracked double figures in 23 of 24 outings so far this season as three two double figures against the Seahawks. Nelson has now scored 10+ points in 22 of 24 contests, including the last nine games.
- With 48 rebounds against UNCW, the team has now secured 40+ boards in all but two contests this season. They have either won or tied the fight off the boards in 18 contests.
- Six Tigers grabbed five or more boards in Friday's outing including Rivera (9), Kubek (8), Dodson (8) Ryann Evans (7), Tarriyonna Gary (6) and Kornegay Lucas (5).
- Dodson gave the Tigers a huge spark off the bench with six points, eight rebounds and a career-high three blocks.
