With Sunday's win, the Tigers made history, becoming the fastest team to 20 wins in program history. The victory also tied the most regular season wins in program history.

The men's team earned their 21st win on Saturday against Charleston, to mark the first time in Towson's history both the men's and women's teams have reached 20+ wins in the same season. Towson is one of six schools in the country to have both basketball squads with 20+ victories.

  • The Cougars put the pressure on early to force two turnovers out of the stop and take the five-point lead, 17-12. The Tigers rallied to put the score within one point to end the first, 20-19.
  • Nelson ended the very tight first quarter with 13 of the Tigers' 19 points.
  • To start the second, Narrie Dodson made a pair of shots from the line to tie the score once again, 21-21. Nelson stayed perfect from beyond the arc, hitting her fourth three-pointer of the contest to give Towson the 24-23 edge.
  • Williams ended a two-minute scoring drought for the Black & Gold to even the scoreboard at 30. A layup from Kubek put the team in front just before the media timeout at 2:56.
  • To end the first half, the Tigers only allowed two more points from the Cougars while adding six points of their own to go into the locker room on top, 36-32.
  • Towson brought the momentum into the second half, going on a 6-0 in the opening three minutes of action to go up, 46-38 and force a CofC timeout.
  • Out of the stop, the Tigers added another two buckets to extend their run, 11-0, while holding the Cougars to 1-of-8 from the field. At the halfway point, the Black & Gold owned the 11-point lead, 51-40.

Inside the Numbers

  • With the victory over the Cougars, the Tigers eclipsed their third 20-win season in program history. The team also reached 20 wins in 2018-19 and 1007-08. The win also ties the program high for regular season victories and is just two short of the most wins in program history.
  • The team also became the fastest in program history to 20 wins, as both other squads that hit the mark did so in the month of March.
  • Head coach Diane Richardson now has two 20-win seasons under her belt as she also reached 20 wins in the 2018-19 campaign.
  • The team has held its opponents to less than 10 points in a quarter 13 times this season. The Tigers most recently held Charleston to just six points in the fourth quarter of action.
  • The Black & Gold have held 12 opponents to under 35.5 percent shooting in a game this season as CofC ended the contest shooting 27.8 percent (22-of-79).
  • At least two Tigers have cracked double figures in 24 of 25 outings so far this season as three landed in double figures against the Cougars. Nelson has now scored 10+ points in 23 of 25 contests, including the last 10 games.
  • With 54 rebounds against Charleston, the team has now secured 40+ boards in all but two contests this season and 50+ five times. They have either won or tied the fight off the boards in 19 contests.
  • The teams kept it close through the first half with seven lead changes and eight ties, but Towson stayed in control the second half, never letting Charleston get ahead. The Tigers led for all but 5:13 of the game.
  • Nelson scored 26 points for her sixth 20+ point performance of the season, the most on the team.
  • The Black & Gold earned 28 bench points led by Skye Williams who provided a huge spark with 15 points and three assists. CofC only recorded six points off the bench.
