ELON, N.C. – The Towson women's basketball team came back to defeat Elon on the road, 67-52, Sunday afternoon. With the win, the black & gold completed their second Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) sweep as they defeated the Phoenix earlier in the year, 67-54 (Jan. 7).
The Tigers outscored the Phoenix 25-7 in the fourth quarter to push them over the edge for the win. Kylie Kornegay-Lucas led the charge with 13 fourth quarter points to end the day with a season-high 20 points. She also secured seven rebounds, five steals and two blocks.
Anissa Rivera earned her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Aleah Nelson (12), Rayne Tucker (10) and Tarriyonna Gary (10) followed closely behind.

How it Happened
- Elon got out to an early 5-2 lead. After an early field goal, Towson went 0-of-6 from the field. The Phoenix in turn went on a 9-0 run, forcing three turnovers in the span.
- The Tigers called a timeout at the 4:20 mark as the Phoenix owned the 11-2 edge. Out of the break, Kornegay-Lucas gave her team a spark, earning two steals and an assist on a single possession. She found Tucker for the score.
- Towson ended the first on a 7-3 run to cut into the deficit, 17-13.
- Elon continued to find the rim, jumping back out to a 24-16 lead halfway through the second. The black & gold answered though, with back-to-back three-pointers from Gary. The second three forced a Phoenix timeout at the 6:16 mark, with the score, 26-22.
- Rivera broke a 2:30 drought for the Tigers with 3:45 on the clock in the second to put the game within four points, 28-24. Gary and Nelson followed up with back-to-back three's to give Towson its first lead of the contest, 32-31. With just :04 left in the first half, however, Elon found the basket to regain the 33-32 advantage as time expired. \
- The black & gold ended the first half shooting 5-for-11 from three-point range as Gary led the charge, shooting 3-of-4 from deep.
- The teams kept in close at the start of the third quarter. After an early field goal from Elon, the team struggled, only hitting 1-of-8 from the field. Towson rallied to tie the score, 37-37 at the 4:42 media timeout.
- Nelson hit a three to end another 2:30 scoring drought for the Tigers. The Phoenix followed up with their own bucket from deep to take the 42-40 advantage back. Elon ended the third in front by just three points, 45-42.
- The Tigers tied the game up early in the fourth with a three-point field goal from Kornegay-Lucas. Tucker made a jumper in the paint to give the team the lead, 47-45. Towson held Elon scoreless until 6:17 in the fourth.
- The teams continued to keep it close through the middle of the period, but Towson stayed in front, 53-50 at the 4:32 media timeout. Coming out of the stoppage, Elon went over 2:00 without a bucket to allow Towson to stay in control.
- Kornegay-Lucas took over in the final period, scoring 13 points, including an electrifying and-one with under a minute to play. The Tigers maintained control for the rest of the fourth quarter, going on a 10-0 run to end the contest and take home the 67-52 win.
Inside the Numbers
- This is the Tigers' first 17-win season since 2018-19 (20-13) and marks just the second since 2008-19 (17-13). This is also the team's fourth consecutive season with at least eight CAA wins.
- Towson has now completed sweep over CAA foes William & Mary and Elon. The team has won their last fiive consecutive outings and is now 6-4 on the road.
- As the black & gold held the Phoenix to just seven points in the fourth quarter, the team has now held their opponent to less than 10 points in a quarter 11 times this campaign.
- Towson's defense held Elon to 33.9 percent shooting during the game, the 11th time this season the team has held its opponent to under 35.5 percent shooting.
- The Tigers forced 17 turnovers for their sixth consecutive 10+ turnover performance. The team also cashed in on 13 points off turns.
- Towson out-rebounded Elon 48-31. The Tigers have now secured +40 boards in 19 contests this season.
- At least two Tigers have cracked double figures in 20 of 21 outings so far this season as five hit double figures against the Phoenix. Nelson has now scored 10+ points in 19 of 21 contests, including the last six games. When Towson lands four or more players in double-digits, they are 11-0
- Kornegay-Lucas set a new season best with 20 points. Her previous high of 17 points was set against Charleston (Jan. 21).
