TOWSON, Md. – The Towson women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaking decision to Delaware in the final moments of action on Wednesday night, 81-78. The contest featured 14 lead changes, including seven in the fourth quarter, and nine ties.
With 25 seconds to go, the Tiger took the 76-75 lead, but a field goal and four free throws in the final 16 seconds gave the Blue Hens the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) win.
Despite the result, Kylie Kornegay-Lucas recorded the first triple-double for Towson since 1993, earning 11 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. The triple-double is also the first in the CAA since 2018.
Aleah Nelson scored a team-high 24 points, all in the second half, as she shot 6-of-11 from deep to match her career high. Allie Kubek added 20 points. Ryann Evans also grabbed 10 boards.

How it Happened
- The teams traded possessions to start the contest, as Delaware only hit a single free throw in the opening two minutes. The Blue Hens went on to take the 5-0 lead. Towson quickly rallied though to tie the game 5-5 at the 6:00 mark. The score was tied up twice more before the media timeout at the 2:44 mark.
- Towson ended the period up 17-13, holding standout player Jasmine Dickey to just four points.
- Kubek kicked off the second quarter for the Tigers with a three-point play to give the team the 19-18 edge. Anissa Rivera followed up with a bucket from deep to make the score 22-20.
- At the halfway point of the period, the black & gold took the 31-23 advantage, holding the Blue Hens scoreless the previous two minutes of play. The eight point lead marked their biggest lead of the contest. Delaware came back strong, however, going on a 6-0 run over a 1:15 span.
- Kubek ended the second quarter with 12 big points to push her team in front, to end the first half on top, 36-34. Kubek paced both benches going into the locker room with 16 total points.
- Delaware came out in the second half hot, going on another 6-0 run to take the slight lead, 42-40. Both teams then struggled, as neither hit a field goal through the middle of the period. Gary ended the streak with a three-pointer to cut the Tigers' deficit to one point, 44-43.
- Nelson made a pair of three's to lead Towson on a 7-0 run and put the team back in control, 56-54. She went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in the third period.
- The Blue Hens came out fast in the final period, tying the contest up, 56 all. Evans came up clutch for Towson with an electrifying three-point play to put the black & gold back in the driver's seat, 59-56.
- The teams continued to trade the lead through the 4:38 media timeout as Delaware still led slightly, 71-69. Nelson hit three three-pointers to lead her squad on an 11-4 run and give Towson the 74-71 lead with 3:07 to play.
- The Blue Hens answered to go up 75-74. With 39 seconds left, Nelson cashed in on a driving layup to give the Tigers their final lead of the night, 75-74.
- Delaware hit a layup of its own and then regained control to hit two shots from the line to make the score 79-76.
- The Tigers got one final possession just 14 seconds later as Kornegay-Lucas grabbed a rebound and scored to give her a triple-double and make it a one-point game, 79-78.
- The blue hens then hit two more free throw to take the slight 81-78 win home.
Inside the Numbers
- Kornegay Lucas' triple-double marks the first at Towson since 1993, when Tanya Belair did it against Wintrop (17p, 10r, 10s). Chris Pulaski did it when the team was Division II, amassing 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks to set the record for the Tigers. It is also the first in the CAA since 2018 when Shay Burnett of Elon brought in 13 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists.
- Wednesday's game marks the third time this season two players have scored +20 points in a game, as the team also eclipsed the feat against James Madison (Kubek, 28/Rivera, 20) and Northeastern (Nelson, 24/Kubek, 22). Kubek has been involved in all three instances.
- Kubek and Nelson have each had five 20+ point games this season.
- In the fourth quarter, neither team led by more than four points. Neither team took a double-digit lead throughout the entire game either as Towson's biggest advantage was eight points and Delaware's was five. The Tigers also spent 18:47 of the contest with the lead while the Blue Hens led for 14:43.
- This is the Tigers' first 17-win season since 2018-19 (20-13) and marks just the second since 2008-19 (17-13). This is also the team's fourth consecutive season with at least eight CAA wins.
- Wednesday's decision ends the 9-0 home win streak for the Tigers this slate.
- At least two Tigers have cracked double figures in 21 of 22 outings so far this season as three hit double figures against the Blue Hens. Nelson has now scored 10+ points in 20 of 22 contests, including the last seven games.
- The black & gold outscored the Blue Hens 25-8 on the fast break and 19-9 off the bench.
