PHILADELPHIA – The Towson University women's basketball team fell to Delaware in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament Semifinals Saturday night, 56-55.
The contest came down to the final seconds of play as Tarriyonna Gary hit a shot from deep with just six seconds to go but the Blue Hens answered with two free throw to seal the very close decision, 56-55.
Allie Kubek secured her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kylie Kornegay-Lucas had another well-rounded performance recording 15 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Gary matched Kornegay-Lucas with 15 points to pace the team.
Kubek (3-of-7) and Gary (3-of-5) shot well from deep, each netting three three's each.

How it Happened
- Delaware got out to an early 8-2 lead and quickly forced Towson timeout. The Blue Hens stayed in front through the middle of the period, 16-9.
- The Tigers battled back to put game within four points, 16-12, with a layup from Gary and a three from Kubek. The Black & Gold kept it close, but it was Delaware who emerged with the 22-17 edge at the end of the first.
- Towson stayed tight to start the second and rallied to score on three consecutive possessions. A three-pointer from Kubek gave the Tigers the 27-26 edge.
- Out of the 4:55 media timeout, Delaware got a bucket to regain the slight 28-27 advantage. Both teams then struggled from the field, going scoreless for over two minutes. Towson ended the opening half without a score for the final four minutes.
- Both teams stayed close to start the third quarter, as the score did not get more than three points apart for the opening five minutes of play. \\
- Delaware pulled away, scoring on back-to-back plays to go up, 36-31. They held Towson scoreless in return for over three minutes.
- Kubek ended the drought with a three and Kornegay-Lucas followed up with a basket of her own to put the score back within two points, 38-36. The teams traded buckets through the end of the third, but the Blue Hens came out with the slight advantage once again, 42-38.
- The Tigers started off the fourth period struggling to get to the rim, going just over two minutes without a bucket. Kornegay-Lucas got the team on the board with a steal and a score to put the game, once again, within just one point, 43-42.
- Just before the 4:58 media timeout, the Blue Hens hit a shot from deep to stay ahead, 46-42.
- Kornegay-Lucas followed up with a clutch three-point play to put the Tigers in front, 47-46. The teams continued to go back and forth though, as both got to the rim on their next possessions.
- Kubek hit two shots at the line to keep her team in front, 50-49. The Blue Hens then came back down to draw the foul and hit one at the line to tie it up, 50-all. '
- Delaware went ahead by two, but Nelson had the answer as she hit a pair of shots at the line to tie it back up, 52-52.
- With 11 seconds on the clock, Gary hit a clutch three-point field goal to give Towson the lead, 55-54.
- As the buzzer sounded, the Black & Gold were called for a foul which sent the Blue Hens to the line. With under a second left on the clock, the opposition hit both free throws to take the secure the 56-55 victory.
Inside the Numbers
- The team has also held its opponents to less than 10 points in a quarter 17 times this season. The Tigers held Delaware to just eight points in the second quarter of action on Saturday night.
- At least two Tigers have cracked double figures in 30 of 31 outings so far this season as four landed in double figures against the Huskies. Nelson has scored 10+ points in 29 of 31 games this slate, including the last 16 outings.
- Towson continued to see production from its non-starters with 17 bench points. The Black & Gold have reached double-digits off the bench in the last 15 games and have reached +30 on seven occasions.
- Kubek's fifth double-double matches Anissa River to lead the team this season.It is also the eighth of her career.
- Saturday's close contest featured five ties and eight lead changes.
