Towson Men’s Basketball Draws Wake Forest for 2022 National Invitation Tournament First Round

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team is headed to the National Invitation Tournament for the first time in school history, drawing 2-seed Wake Forest for the first round.
 
Towson will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the first round, which will be played on March 16 at 7 p.m.  The game will air online on ESPN+.
 
Towson earned the automatic berth into the NIT as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season co-champion and 1-seed in the CAA Tournament.  The Tigers tied a program Division I record with 25 victories this season, standing 25-8 overall and 15-3 in CAA play.  Towson has been in the top-15 of the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll three past three weeks, currently standing at No. 10.
 
This is Towson's first-ever trip to the NIT, which takes 32 teams.  Towson last played in a postseason after the 2015-16 season in the Vegas 16 Tournament.
 
The first three rounds of the NIT will be played at campus sites, hosted by the higher seed in each game.  The NIT semifinals and title game will be played at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 29 and 31 respectively.
 
Wake Forest finished with a 23-9 overall record, going 13-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).  This will be the first-ever meeting between Towson and Wake Forest.
