Keener Earns Weekly EAGL Award

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – For the first time in her career, Towson University gymnast Lauren Keener was selected as a weekly award winner from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL). The League made its announcement Wednesday morning.

Keener was selected as the Co-Rookie of the Week after Towson's second-place finish at its home finale on Friday evening. North Carolina's Julia Knower was the other Co-Rookie of the Week. George Washington's Deja Chambliss was the Gymnast of the Week while teammate Kendall Whitman was the Specialist of the Week.

An Apex, North Carolinan, Keener hit a career-best 9.900 on Friday, finishing third in a deep field at the quad-meet with No. 28 Maryland, George Washington and Southern Connecticut. On beam, Keener scored a 9.875, tying for first place while matching a career-best beam score. It was her first career first-place finish in any event as a Tiger.

Keener and the No. 30 Tigers head to Washington, D.C. Saturday evening for the 2022 EAGL Championships, hosted at George Washington's Charles E. Smith Center. Towson, seeded second at this year's event, will compete in the second session, which begins at 6 p.m.

The EAGL Championships will be carried on ESPN+ with Kevin Copp and Christina Chauvenet on the call. Joining Towson in the evening session will be N.C. State, North Carolina and host George Washington. Pittsburgh, New Hampshire, Temple and LIU will all compete at noon in Session I.
