TOWSON, Md. – Towson University men's basketball head coach
Pat Skerry has been named a finalist for the 2022 Hugh Durham Award, presented annually to the top Division I mid-major coach in men's college basketball.
Skerry is one of 20 finalists across the country selected for this award. This is the second time where Skerry has been a Durham Award finalist, also being a finalist in 2013.
Skerry coached Towson to one of the top turnarounds in Division I, going from four victories in 2020-21 to 25 in 2021-22. Currently, Towson has the highest improvement of victories in the country at +21, ahead of Iowa State's +20 and Middle Tennessee State's +19.
Under Skerry's leadership, Towson earned its winningest Division I season and first-ever Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season title, finishing 25-9 overall and 15-3 in the league with its first-ever trip to the National Invitation Tournament. Towson ranked at No. 10 in the March 7 CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 as one of the top mid-major programs in the country.
Since the 2012-13 season, Towson has earned seven 18+ win campaigns under Skerry. Towson has also finished in the top-three of the CAA four of the last seven seasons.
Coaches of teams in the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
The 2022 Hugh Durham Award will be announced on April 1 in New Orleans.
