Championship Central, hosted on Georgia Tech's Website.
The two-time Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champion in the event, Benzing earned a berth to the NCAA Championships with a 51.95 second swim at the Princeton Last Chance meet. The Catonsville, Marylander registered the 22nd fastest 100-yard short course breaststroke time in the country this season.
One of just seven sophomores in the 41 swimmer field, Benzing has the second-fastest swim among the sophomore class at the event. Benzing is one of three swimmers from a mid-major program in the event.
Benzing will have his work cut out for him in Atlanta; the second-year Tiger has never lost the 100-yard breaststroke in a collegiate meet, winning the event 13 times over the last two seasons.
The Tiger is the lone men's competitor from the CAA to be selected to the swimming portion of the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. All told, there were 235 competitors selected from 45 member institutions.
