RALEIGH, N.C. — The Towson University women's track and field team will travel to NC State to compete in the Raleigh Relays from March 24-26.
Last Time Out
To open the 2022 outdoor season, the Tigers took home four gold medals in additional to seven top-three finishes at Richmond's Fred Hardy Invitational.
Georgia Coleman started off strong by winning the hammer throw with a toss of 56.60 meters. With a mark of 13.20 meters, Kayla Thorpe followed up with a second place finish in the shot put. Fatimah Owens secured second place in the discus throw with a mark of 43.05. Coleman took fifth (39.45).
Deneé Hibbert earned the silver in the triple jump with a leap of 11.73. In the long jump, Hibbert came in third with a jump of 5.71 meters.
Hayley Horvath won the pole vault and set the facility record at Robins Stadium with a height of 3.90 meters.
Nicole Bezborodko posted a time of 11:59.11 in the 3000 meter steeplechase to take third.
Two Tigers found their way onto the podium in the 100 meter hurdles as Deborah Gnoumou took gold (15.32), and Ani Boghossian-James claimed bronze (15.79).
Cristal Cuervo came in third place in the 400 meter dash, clocking 58.17.
Tucker also secured gold in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.44.
Fresh Faces
The Tigers welcomed 10 freshmen to the team in Cristal Cuervo, Lacey Fowler, Deneé Hibbert, Sara Kindbom, Mia Martinez, Alexis Mogensen and Aubrey Schaffer.
Transferring In
Transfers Najae Nickerson (Mount St. Mary's), Taylor Robinson (Marshall), Chalys Caruth (Mount St. Mary's), Amanda Tony (Alvernia) and Emmeline Klefaas (North Greenville) also all joined the Tiger family for the upcoming slate.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will host their only home meet of the season, the Towson Invitational, from April 1-2.
Tigers in the Community
For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. The Tigers won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
