BOX SCORE COLLEGE PARK, Md. – 10 different Towson University baseball team players earned hits against a tough Big Ten opponent, but the Tigers fell to Maryland 26-8
Towson (8-17) scored three runs in the third inning to cut Maryland (19-5)'s early lead to four, but the Terrapins' multi-run innings proved to be decisive. Towson will enter league play this weekend.
Key Stats:
- James Moses notched two doubles from the leadoff spot, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored. Jake Lysaght had a two-run single in the seventh, reaching base twice with a walk.
- The loss went to starter Ethan Pecko (0-1), who had four runs in a third of an inning.
- For Maryland, Nick Lorusso hit 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBI. Reliever Andrew Johnson (1-0), pitching scoreless frames in the fourth and fifth.
How It Happened:
- James Moses hit a leadoff double to the left-center gap to begin the game but was stranded. Maryland scored four runs in the bottom half of the first, capped by a Matt Shaw two-run home run, to lead 4-0.
- Towson got the bats going in the top of the second as Nolan Young and Danny Becerra hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning. Jack McLaughlin hit into a fielder's choice to short to bring home Young and make it 4-1 Maryland. The Terps got four more in the second to go up 8-1.
- Jordan Peyton and Moses got on via single and double respectively in the third. A wild pitch allowed Peyton to score, then Chandler Castleberry belted a grounder down the left field line for a double and RBI. Two batters later, Burke Camper found the hole on the right side for a ground ball single, scoring Castleberry to get Towson within four at 8-4 Maryland. Again Maryland responded with three home runs for six runs.
- Maryland got five more in the fourth before Brett Seils pitched a scoreless fifth. Towson got a run back in the sixth
- In the seventh, the bats came alive with two outs. A Trent Gast-Woodard RBI ground rule double in the seventh on a blast to left field, then a line drive two-run single by Jake Lysaght made it 19-8 Maryland.
- The home team added seven runs in the seventh. Maryland took the victory 26-8.

- James Moses has reached base in 21 consecutive games while Nolan Young has reached in his last 17 contests.
- Brett Seils earned his longest outing of the year with two innings thrown.
